Backstage Details on John Cena & His 2025 Retirement Tour
– As previously reported, WWE Superstar John Cena made a surprise appearance on last night’s WWE Money in the Bank 2024 premium live event. He announced his retirement tour, which will be taking place next year. This includes his last appearances at WrestleMania and other events. He plans to work throughout the year for WWE from January to December before he officially hangs it up. Fightful Select has more backstage details on Cena’s appearance at Money in the Bank and his retirement tour plans.
The report notes that Cena wasn’t making his presence inconspicuous in Toronto yesterday ahead of Money in the Bank. Word surfaced that he was spotted in town before the show. Talent in WWE told Fightful that they didn’t realize that Cena was going to announce his retirement tour until they saw him in his new gear that said, “The Last Time Is Now.”
Several people in WWE reportedly knew about the announcement of Cena’s retirement tour, which was said to be kept very close to the vest. WWE also plans to heavily promote Cena’s farewell tour, which will have Cena appearing “fairly often” throughout next year. Cena noted during the post-show press conference he plans working quite a few dates next year compared to his more recent WWE schedule, in the mid-30s to 40s range.
The report also notes that there was some discussion over how Cena will be utilized during his farewell tour, how many dates he’d be able to commit to, and how WWE can work around his 2025 schedule to make it happen. While Cena will be working in WWE throughout the year, the company is still expecting to him to still have various other obligations with his film and television career. Additionally, WWE has had talks about how the company will handle Cena following his retirement. It’s said that WWE was adamant that Cena will continue appearing in WWE in some capacity following his retirement tour.
Some WWE talents have also informed Fightful that they angling or looking to campaign to try and work with John Cena during his farewell tour next year.
