Backstage News on Jinder Mahal’s Push & WWE Ruining Impact’s Plans in India
According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the push of Jinder Mahal has everything to do with a new strategy earmarking India, which was a last minute decision because WWE had done nothing to position him as a top star. The push of Mahal and the former Bollywood Boys comes along with the hiring of Sheetesh Srivastava as the new Vice President and General Manager of WWE India. WWE has more social media followers in India than anywhere else, including the US. Even if Mahal doesn’t get over as a big star in the US, the feeling is that he will get over as a huge star in India.
Also, the tryouts this week in Dubai (whether intentional or not) have basically cut off Impact Wrestling and Sony Six’s plans of a show in India, using locals as the top stars, and with the original plans of targeting the best students from Khali’s school. Impact reportedly had a local TV deal to use local talent, leading to WWE speeding up their plans.
