During today’s edition of Fightful Select Answers Q&A, there were some more details on the exact role that Paul Heyman plays in the WWE creative team. The WWE Hall of Famer currently portrays the role of the manager and counsel for The Vision on WWE Raw. However, it’s been unclear if Heyman plays a role in the WWE creative team.
In the Fightful Q&A, someone asked Sean Ross Sapp if Paul Heyman plays a role on the WWE creative team, based on his recent comments regarding Penta on the Netflix docuseries, WWE: Unreal. According to Sapp, Heyman “contributes quite a bit” to the creative side, especially with the talent he works with on screen.
Additionally, it’s noted that if there is a talent Heyman takes a shine to, Heyman will help that talent as well. Additionally, Heyman once informed Sapp about how that strategy would backfire, as people in the company would spitefully reject anyone he took a liking to or under his wing. Also, it’s said that Heyman is generous to any talent who asks him for advice or help.
In June 2019, Heyman was named as Executive Director of Monday Night Raw to oversee the show’s creative direction. About a year later, WWE opted to consolidate its creative team to be led by Bruce Prichard.
The announcement said at the time, “In an effort to streamline our creative writing process for television, we have consolidated both teams from Raw and SmackDown into one group, led by Bruce Prichard. Paul Heyman will concentrate on his role as an in-ring performer.” Despite being dismissed from his Executive Director role, Heyman remained in WWE as an on-air character, eventually becoming The Wise Man for Roman Reigns and The Bloodline.
