Backstage Update on WWE Creative Being Influenced by Social Media

WWE has long claimed that it doesn’t pay heed to what wrestling fans say on social media. However, in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that, despite the company claiming that social media doesn’t factor into their creative plans, almost every non-injury-related change since Drew McIntyre’s Undisputed WWE Championship victory has been influenced by fans complaining about the product being too predictable.
With fans being quite vocal about their likes and dislikes on social media, one person in WWE, according to Meltzer, noted that it’s tough playing “babyface booker” in this day and age. The source further noted that with so many opinions floating around these days, the booker has to be able to “decipher the true criticism from those who just like to criticize everything.”
The source noted that there would be fewer changes in creative directions and second-guessing and that Triple H would have a much easier time if he stopped trying to be a “sage architect.”
Triple H didn’t appear in front of the crowd on the WWE Elimination Chamber Post Show last weekend. Instead, he was interviewed backstage by Jackie Redmond. According to Meltzer, this step was in line with the company being affected by fans booing him during his last two Post Show appearances. He added this was another step that WWE took after moving away from post-PLE press conferences following Brock Lesnar’s return at SummerSlam last August.
