BG Says: FIP Fallout 2005

October 8, 2005 – Bushnell, Florida
When we last left FIP
Sean Waltman made his FIP debut in an impromptu match against Jimmy Rave, who he challenged after Rave interfered in one too many matches during the show. Rainman defeated three men in one match on his way to the FIP Championship, and later attacked Homicide during his title match against Austin Aries. Dave Prazak acquired Aries and the soon-to-return Bryan Danielson as members of DP Associates. Finally, Colt Cabana and Sal Rinauro beat Roderick Strong and Milano Collection AT to get a shot at the tag titles, leading to bad feelings between Strong and Milano.
Your hosts are Dave Prazak and Jared David.
VS.
The hard camera shoots a terrible angle of the ring here. Starsmore grabs a headlock to start but Blanco powers him down. Blanco hits a standing moonsault for 2. Starsmore blocks a blind charge and hits the slowest swinging DDT ever for 2. Blanco sets up for a piledriver but Rainman runs in and takes out both guys with a chair. The referee throws the match out about two minutes in. The match itself was garbage so the interference was welcomed.
Rating: DUD
Rainman steals the microphone from Lenny Leonard and gloats about beating up Antonio Banks and Homicide the last time FIP ran through Bushnell. He wants to fight Homicide for the title now. Homicide runs out and Rainman takes a powder. Homicide calls him back into the ring and then clotheslines him to the floor. Rainman gets frustrated and leaves.
VS.
Marcos puts Luke on the mat to start. Luke comes back with a roll up for 2. Marcos grabs a headlock and hits a hurricanrana. He hits a dropkick for 2. Luke hits an Angle slam for 2. Marcos hits a boot to the face and an enziguiri for 2. They trade chops and Luke pulls Marcos’ shirt over his face. Marcos chops the referee by mistake and Luke dumps him to the floor. Marcos goes for a sunset flip but Luke reverses to the Alley-Oop. He climbs the ropes and hits a top rope legdrop for the win at 4:21. This was exactly what I expected from these two. I don’t understand what it was about the Ring Crew Express that made people think they were any good.

He climbs the ropes again but Mamaluke shoves the referee into the ropes, crotching him. Mamaluke goes up top, hits a superplex and floats into an armbar for the win at 9:30. This was surprisingly entertaining, and a good last match for Dunn in FIP.

VS.

Madison and Stevens screwed Clark and Fury in a number one contenders’ gauntlet match a few shows back, and then kept them from getting another shot at the tag titles the night before this when both teams fell to Dunn and Marcos in a three way match. Clark and Fury start the match with hurricanranas on both opponents. Fury hits a stiff kick to Madison’s back and then swings Clark into a dropkick. Madison comes back with a back suplex and calls in Madison. Clark gets a blind tag and hits a springboard forearm and Stevens. He hits a dropkick on Madison but gets hit with a double-team stun gun. Stevens makes a phantom tag and hits a bodyslam and a kneedrop. He hits a snap suplex for 2. Madison comes in illegally and hits a delayed butterfly suplex. He hits a second rope legdrop for 2. Stevens continues the series of fake tags and puts on a chinlock. He hits a back elbow and tags to Madison. Madison puts on an abdominal stretch with some added leverage from Stevens. Stevens tags in and hits a legsweep as Madison nails Clark with an STO for 2. Stevens puts on a cobra clutch but Clark fights out. Stevens cuts off his momentum with a powerslam. He goes for a senton but Clark moves out of the way. Clark tags to Fury who cleans house on his opponents. Madison hits the Ax Bomber on the referee before Fury nails him with the Jaytrix Enzifury. Clark and Fury dropkick Stevens’ knees. Fury hits a senton and Clark hits a handspring moonsault. Clark hits a modified Code Red but there’s no referee. Madison hits the Ax Bomber on Fury and wraps a chain around his hand. He hits Clark with the chain and Stevens follows up with a superbomb for the win at 9:05. This was good and had the makings of a great tag team match, but it was too chaotic for my tastes. I’m willing to bet the rematch will be better.

Roderick Strong comes out to blame his tag team loss from the night before on Milano Collection AT and challenges him to a singles match.
VS.
Strong grabs a wristlock to start. Milano reverses to his own so Strong takes him to the mat with the Royal Octopus. He rolls Milano over for 2. Milano comes back with a hammerlock then switches to a leglock. Strong reverses to a roll up for 2. They knuckle up and Strong gets another roll up for 2. He puts on a front facelock but Milano comes back by tying his arm around the second rope. He puts Strong on the mat with an armbar but Strong reverses to the leg scissors. Milano reverses that to a bow and arrow lock. The referee counts him down for 2 and he releases before putting on a headlock. Strong hits a pair of armdrags followed by a phantom armdrag. He hits a monkey flip for 2. Milano hangs him on the second rope and hits a dropkick from the floor to the apron. Back in the ring he hits a seated dropkick and a double stomp. He hits an ax kick for 2. Strong comes back with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker and the half nelson backbreaker for 2. He goes for the gutbuster but Milano fights away and hits a leg lariat. He follows it up with the Armani Shoe Exchange and the Emporio Armani Shoe for the win at 15:23. Milano completely broke down Strong’s midsection here and strung together enough of his finishers to put the FIP regular away, and I dig it.

Dave Prazak and Jimmy Rave come out for some stick time. He brings up Azrieal’s desire to face a member of DP Associates on the show but warns him that if he shows his face tonight that he’ll pay the price. Azrieal ignores the warning and comes out for a match against Rave. He starts cutting a promo, doing a terrible job of making fun of Rave until Austin Aries attacks him from behind. Rave, Aries and Prazak put the boots to him until Sean Waltman makes the save. Waltman challenges them to a tag team match and since anything goes in FIP the match is made.

VS.

Sean and Sal start, but not until after an unbearable amount of stalling. Sean grabs a waistlock but Sal steps on his toes to escape. He smacks Sean’s rear end so Sean chases him around the ring. The fat man loses his breath so Sal runs circles around him, sexually harassing him over and over. He gets a roll up for 2 and hits a dropkick on Phil. Cabana comes in for a double dropkick on Sean. Phil and Sean bail so that Sean doesn’t have a heart attack. Cabana and Phil tag in and more stalling occurs. They lock up and Phil grabs a wristlock. Cabana escapes and embarrasses Phil with his goofy antics. Sal and Sean join in the fun, as does the referee. The silliness ends when Sal and Sean leave the ring. Phil gets a headlock on Cabana and they criss cross. Cabana stops and Phil keeps running until he gasses out. Cabana takes advantage with an atomic drop sending Phil to the floor. Back in the ring Phil runs into Sean so the challengers give them the rowboat stretch. Sal and Sean tag in and Sean goes to the eyes. He dumps Sal to the floor where Phil holds him for a shot from So Cal Val’s purse. Phil tags in and they hit a double flapjack. Sean tags in and squashes Sal against the middle rope. Phil lands on top of Sean in an uncomfortable position. Sal climbs the ropes but Val crotches him. Sean tries to hit Cabana with the purse but Cabana catches him. Sal hits a crossbody on Sean for 2 when Val gets involved. Phil comes off the top rope and hits Sal with the purse, drawing the disqualification at 15:54. The comedy in this wasn’t all that funny and the actual wrestling looked like it was in slow motion. Sal’s reliance on cheap heat tricks is starting to get very annoying as well.
Rating: *½
After the match the Heartbreak Express try for a heel beat down but Cabana and Sal fight them off. They leave Val in the ring and Cabana plants a big wet one on her. Cabana accuses the Heartbreak Express of cheating to keep the titles, and then he promises to come back and beat them for the titles.

Prazak gets on the apron so Waltman slugs him down. Aries dumps Waltman to the floor and hits Azrieal with a stiff kick to the face. Rave follows up with Greetings from Ghana for the win at 18:03. The first fifteen minutes of this match did little to grab me. The finish was interesting, but not enough to really make this worthwhile.

VS.
[Anything Goes Match]
Rainman brings a chair with him to the ring and attacks Homicide before the bell. He hits a back bodydrop and chokes Homicide in the corner. He goes for a suplex but Homicide blocks and shoves Rainman to the floor. He follows him out with a suicide dive and throws a chair at his face. He rams Rainman into the post and then shoves him into the rafters. He hits him with a water bottle and a cooler and then chokes him with his own shirt. Rainman chokes Homicide with the shirt but Homicide fights back. They brawl up into the rafters where Homicide pulls on Rainman’s beard. He holds Rainman’s head against the ring bell and then hits the bell with a hammer. They fight up the stage where Homicide goes for a piledriver. Rainman blocks and hits a backdrop. He puts on a chinlock and double hooks Homicide’s mouth. He rolls Homicide back into the ring and hits an elbowdrop for 2. He chokes Homicide with his boot and Homicide taps out, although the referee doesn’t call it as such for whatever reason. Rainman goes for a suplex but Homicide rolls him up for the win at 7:54. This was just a dull brawl that was too short and had a finish that came out of nowhere and didn’t fit within the context of the match.
Rating: *¾
Rave, Prazak and Aries attack Homicide after the match. Prazak and Aries hold Homicide down and Rave blasts Homicide’s arm with a chair repeatedly. The locker room empties and the ring ends up being consumed by a giant brawl. When the dust settles the babyfaces are in control and Benny Blanco and Gabe Sapolsky carry Homicide to the back.
The 411: ![]() To an even greater extent than the show that preceded it this show disappoints. The only matches that caught my interest were Dunn vs. Mamaluke out of shock value for Dunn’s solid performance and Milano vs. Roderick because it was, you know, a good match. Neither of them are enough to save this DVD however, so I can’t recommend it in good conscience when this promotion is capable of so much more. FIP has decided to skip almost a year's worth of shows in their DVD release schedule so next up will be Impact of Honor. |
