Billy Gunn Was Reportedly Close To Appearing on WWE RAW for DX Reunion, Note On Why It Didn’t Happen

WWE held a D-X reunion for their 25th anniversary a couple of weeks ago and AEW’s Billy Gunn was noticeably not involved. However, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that there were serious, ‘meaningful’ discussions between WWE and AEW to make it happen at one point.
It was noted that WWE never offered money to use Gunn and Tony Khan never asked for it. At one point, Khan agreed to let Gunn appear, but he wanted them to mention that he was in AEW in some way. That could have been mentioning the company on air, or that AEW allowed him to appear, but just one mention, as WWE did when Mickie James appeared in the Royal Rumble while working for Impact Wrestling.
WWE stalled on giving Khan a definitive answer, then decided to turn him down at the last minute and Gunn didn’t appear. It was noted that if Triple H wanted it to happen, he could have made it happen. It’s possible that WWE didn’t want to risk a chant of ‘Scissor Me Daddy’ or ‘Daddy Ass’ on their show.
Fightful Select adds that talks progressed to the point that WWE prepared travel in Gunn’s name, thinking it would happen. One proposed solution was a lower third graphic with an AEW logo, but that didn’t happen either.
