On the latest episode of the Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T talked about Sami Zayn capturing the WWE Championship, saying he caught flak for backing Sami for years and tracing how he evolved into a worthy champion. Zayn defeated Cody Rhodes and Gunther at WWE Night of Champions to finally win the title. You can check out some highlights below:
On Zayn Winning the Undisputed WWE Championship:
“I know a lot of people thought I was out of my mind, saying, ‘What the hell is he talking about? Sami’s not the guy.’ But I’ve been around Sami Zayn from the beginning of his career. I watched it, and I remember when he was that white-meat babyface, when everything was ‘rah-rah’ at the beginning. And I was like, ‘Man, I don’t know how long this is going to last.’
“Then I saw him evolve from that. And I always say if you don’t know how to change with the times, the times pass you by. He picked up on that, and then there was the entertainment stuff he was doing with the Bloodline. Whatever role you put Sami in, he’s going to go out there and do it to the best of his ability, and you’re going to love it. And now him being the champion, besting Cody Rhodes, besting Gunther in Saudi Arabia after that long flight and all that, still going out there and putting on a great show. Big ups to Sami Zayn. Give yourself a pat on the back Sami, because you deserve it, and you earned every bit of this run you’re getting ready to have.”
On Zayn:
“He deserves it man, he really does. He’s put in the work, and it’s not a participation trophy. If you really knew how hard he worked and how passionate he is about this thing, you would understand where I’m coming from. That’s why I say I wish I had 10 Sami Zayns on my Reality of Wrestling roster. I would have no problem coming to work each and every month and not having to wonder how that show is going to go, just because of the passion that dude puts into it.”
