Charlotte Flair Recalls Setback In Injury Recovery After She Stopped Training

Charlotte Flair took a little over a year to get back to WWE TV, and she recently noted that it was partially due to a setback in her recovery. Flair returned to the ring at the 2025 Royal Rumble. It was the end of an arduous process for the multi-time champion, and she talked about it with Men’s Health.
Flair noted that she stopped training because she thought her knee was giving out. As a result, it set her back about a month. You can see highlights below:
On Overtraining:
“I was probably overtraining, and then when I did the stem cells I had already had fluid on my knee. So they took out the fluid before they put in the stem cells, which they can’t numb you. And I was like, ‘Oh my, that was — some people don’t have pain. I had a lot of pain with that.
“But everything was great until when I got to 7 months. I just declined, and I think it was because I stopped training. I was so focused that the quad was hurting that when I was stepping up the stairs, I was like, ‘Why is my knee giving?’ But the quad is giving out, not the knee. ‘So, what’s going on?'”
On Stopping Her Training After That:
“So, I got so scared, and instead of continuing to train through it or do a little bit, I just stopped, and that was like super detrimental. So, I think it took me an extra month to get back to where I needed to be, which, I do agree with him, you can’t just hyperfocus on that. And I was so focused on, like, ‘Okay, I’m just going to give my quads a break,’ which really made it worse.”
