Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes comments on the possibility of his match with Gunther at Clash in Italy being an “away game” for him.

The American Nightmare will defend his title against the Austrian at Inalpi Arena in Turin, Italy, on Sunday, May 31. The match will take place during the first hour of the PLE.

During a recent interview with the Italian Wrestling Channel, Gunther claimed that since the match is in Europe, the live audience could well root for him instead of Cody.

Rhodes disagreed with Gunther’s claim while promoting the title match on ESPN’s Get Up earlier today, noting that his opponent is Austrian and not Italian.

“I don’t think it’s his home turf. This is an Austrian; this is Clash in Italy; they are not the same places. Europe is not a monolith, and I actually think that he’s under the impression that this gonna be an away game for me. I don’t think that. I think Italy will be a crowd like France was: the loudest WWE crowd imaginable.”

Listen to Cody Rhodes’ comments below:

This will be Rhodes’ first defense since WrestleMania 42, where he defeated Randy Orton in the main event of Night One. The American Nightmare previously faced Gunther once, at WWE Crown Jewel 2024, where he defeated the then-World Heavyweight Champion to become the inaugural Men’s Crown Jewel Champion.
