Cody Rhodes is still fresh off his WWE Title win at Summerslam last night, but the next big movie project for he and Roman Reigns is moving full speed ahead.
Fightful Select reports that new big screen adaptation of Street Fighter is set to begin filming in September. WWE is “optimistic” that the filming schedule won’t interrupt storylines for Cody and Roman too much. Cody will be playing the role of Air Force pilot Guile, a role which apparently won’t require him to be on set too much. Reigns is expected to play Akuma, one of the main villains.
NJPW star Hirooki Goto is also rumored for the role of sumo wrestler E. Honda in the movie.
The cast is also expected to include Jason Momoa, 50 Cent, and Orville Peck.
The film is based on the iconic 1987 video game, which led to the Street Fighter II sequel that became one of the most popular games in history.
The game was turned into a movie for the 1994 Street Fighter which starred Jean-Claude Van Damme. That movie was viewed mostly as a flop.
Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li was released in 2009, and also failed to gain much traction.
