Edge and Christian Defend Torrie Wilson Going Into WWE Hall of Fame
During the latest episode of E & C’s Pod of Awesomeness, Edge and Christian both defended WWE’s decision to induct Torrie Wilson into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2019. Here are highlights:
Christian on Samoa Joe winning the US Title: “I think we talked about it in the past where you know, he’s a guy that was believable that could stand in there with Brock and even beat Brock when they were having their matches. And also when he was wrestling AJ I thought they might pull the trigger on it there as well. But this is great for him. He’s been there a couple of years now on the ‘main roster’ and this is kinda the first step. I think as far as him getting elevated even higher because like what we talked about before there’s nobody like him on the roster. He’s a good promo guy too. We talked about the promo he did which was obviously live after he won the title and it was strong. Strong promo.”
Christian on Torrie Wilson in the Hall of Fame: “Yeah, I think it’s great. I mean, I think she’s even come out and said it, it was a different time when she was wrestling. And we were witness to the fact that even though…it wasn’t their fault that they were put in bra and panty matches or lingerie…whatever the matches were. Like, they were still taking it seriously and out there during the day with Fit Finlay in the ring, training, trying to figure out how they could make these matches the best they could or when they had little time to have a wrestling match. But they were in there every single day, training. That era needs to be recognized as well. And she brought other things to the table too that were not even necessarily in the ring, her persona and those sorts of things as well.”
Edge on who should go in: “There’s so many people that deserve to be in there. Each year I always think Molly Holly. Not only from a work standpoint but just from a personal standpoint. She’s just a phenomenal person. Hey, you know another person who’s not in the Hall Of Fame who should be? There’s plenty of them obviously. Wahoo McDaniel. Right? And yeah, you just assume, ‘oh yeah, Wahoo [has] got to be in there, right?’ He’s not! And just his story from playing with the Jets, crazy what Wahoo has done. You think back to that old NWA or Mid-Atlantic and Flair will be the first to say, you know Dusty and Wahoo were the men. You can only fit so many people in every year, I get it. I understand. And at some point, yeah, people are going to get in there.”
Edge on Luke Perry: “I remember him saying his son is a huge fan, well, now he’s son’s a wrestler for AEW. You’ve not heard a word bad about this guy. Just everyone..and I can vouch for that. Every time I met him he was just you could tell he was a good, good person. But here’s one thing that really impressed me. So he comes on the E & C Show as a guest, super cool, laid back, chill, he’s talking Dusty Rhodes, he’s talking Michael Hayes…he didn’t once mention that his son was either training to be a wrestler or was a wrestler. And that impresses me to no end. Because you know he was supportive, because you see all these pictures of him sitting in the stands for his son’s matches just like everybody else. But he didn’t mention it to us, which tells me that he wanted him to find his own way and work toward it on his own. Which looking back, that’s really really…that’s huge. I hope his son has a long storied career.”
