– Frank Shamrock spoke with The Sports Courier for a new interview discussing nearly getting into pro wrestling, his relationship with Ken Shamrock and more. You can check out some highlights and the video below:
On his relationship with Ken Shamrock: “It’s the same. It didn’t progress and it didn’t regress. It’s just the same which is, we don’t really have a relationship. I see him at events. I cornered him for Royce, but I think that was…to get some media. But yeah, the truth is we never developed — we never spent the time to develop a relationship, but now there is all this other stuff in play, I just don’t know the guy. You know, I know my neighbor a lot better. So it’s just weird, and so now we don’t — I think as adults we don’t know how to get back to that, so. When I see him at events, we shake hands. It’s weird…I mean, I didn’t talk to him for fifteen years. So I don’t — We’re on two different islands. We’ve never been able to meet up. But yeah, it’s not unpleasant in any way. I mean, I was excited to see him wrestle, do his thing. So, it just, yeah, it’s weird.”
On if there’s a chance we see him in a pro wrestling ring: “For wrestling? Maybe. I don’t know, just maybe. For my whole career I had a bad back…so I had this ticking timebomb in my lower spine my entire career. Sometimes I’d just fall over after creaming an entire gym, or you know, running up a mountain I’d just fall over. So for me, there was always a physical risk to giving someone else my body. And when it came time to make a decision on pro wrestling, it was, ‘Okay. Do I trust someone else with my body? Or do I move forward with being in total control and just crushing people?’ And at the end of the day I went with just crushing people because it was safer and less risk — I know it sounds crazy — and more money.”
On turning down a chance to go to ECW: “I was recruited by ECW back in the day when Heyman was running it and it was crazy. They were like, ‘We want you.’ And I went and saw it, and was like ‘There’s no way I would survive this. You know, I’m gonna break my spine.'”
