Harley Cameron Recalls Cassie Lee Team-Up, Discusses Australia’s Wrestling Humor

Harley Cameron is experiencing a milestone she never expected to line up so neatly with her past. The AEW Women’s Tag Team Champion recently reflected on how her current success with Willow Nightingale mirrors her early days teaming with Cassie Lee during the 2023 World Series Wrestling tour in Australia. Speaking with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, Cameron admitted she had not realized the parallel until someone mentioned it to her. She joked that she plans to message Lee with a playful note, acknowledging she needed the reminder to notice the connection.

For Cameron, the moment feels “very full circle” in more ways than one. Cassie Lee currently holds the TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Championship with Jessie McKay, meaning both women are champions at the same time in different promotions. Cameron said the achievement feels surreal, especially knowing that her earliest substantial tag experience came from working beside Lee on the independent circuit. That run in Australia offered her first real look at the mechanics of tag wrestling before she transitioned onto a larger stage in AEW.

“Yes, so her and I, we went on a little Australia tour a while ago for a World Series wrestling and she was my first taste of tag team shows on the indies. Now it’s funny, yeah, I didn’t actually connect the dots until you said it just now. I have to send her a message and go, ‘Guess what? I just found out, not because I’m smart, but because someone else pointed it out.’ But it’s very cool, very full circle, isn’t it?”

When asked about the distinct presence Australian wrestlers bring to the ring, Cameron highlighted a tendency toward dry humor, laid-back confidence, and sharp timing. It is something she believes shines through performers like herself, Cassie Lee, and others who built their voices in that environment. According to Cameron, growing up surrounded by constant ribbing and casual jokes creates a personality that translates well on camera.

“I mean, that’s a good point. I think we’re very laid back people and we have very dry sense of humor. I think it’s honestly just embedded in our culture. You kind of grow up, and everyone’s making a joke. Everyone’s got a big similar personality. I’ve noticed that about all of us. Like all of us wrestlers who are, even if we’re from different walks of life in Australia, I’m like, ‘We do have a lot of common personality traits,’ and definitely the way we like to mess around, joke around.”
