John Cena Hypes WWE Backlash Announcement, Says It Will ‘Shock the Very Foundation of WWE’

Former WWE Superstar and 17-time WWE Champion John Cena is set to appear at WWE Backlash this weekend, where he’s promising to have a “history-making” announcement at the premium live event. Cena shared a new video on social media today in Thunder Alley at the Benchmark International Arena, where he once again hyped his upcoming big announcement.

He wrote in the caption, “Only a couple of days until #WWEBacklash!!!” Cena also says in the video, “In just a few days, I have a major announcement inside this building that is gonna shock the very foundation of WWE, from its fans to its superstars, from its champions down to its rookies.”

Cena added, “I’m so grateful that Tampa is allowing me to make this announcement. Thank you, WWE. See you live on ESPN in the States and Netflix around the world, but don’t miss Backlash. I’m so excited, and I’ll see you there.”

WWE Backlash Tampa 2026, featuring an announcement from John Cena, takes place on Saturday, May 9. It will air live on the ESPN App in the U.S. and on Netflix internationally. The first hour will also be simulcast on ESPN2. 411mania.com will have complete live coverage of the event as well.
