TNA fans! It’s time to Slam(m), so welcome to the Jam!
Okay, that was corny, and I apologize for nothing and will definitely do it again! Today, the company’s seminal yearly PPV in honor of the foundation of TNA back in 2002, Slammiversary, comes to us from Boston, Massachusetts, and we are definitely shipping up to Boston!
(Two for two with the music laden puns! Zing!)
Not only will all six titles within the company’s pantheon be up for grabs this afternoon, but we will see the return of Ultimate-X and, in conjunction with that, the return of Amazing Red after a decade and a half since he last performed in a TNA ring! Today could be tantalizing, and you can’t spell that without TNA!
(Okay, I think I heard it, too…)
Ordinarily, when I do any live coverage for any company, I have opened up with the Headlines before I get into the actual show report/recap. However, today I will not be doing that, since I already did that in my first ever TNA preview column for Slammiversary (which, if you haven’t yet, you can check out HERE if you would be so kind), and to do so again would be like cutting off my nose to spite my face. So, in the interest of fairness, I will instead provide bullet point thoughts during Before the Bell, since there are now two matches on there, including the Ricky Sosa and Eric Young match that I presumed would be on the main card.
With all of that out of the way, let’s get ready to SLAM!

Countdown to Slammiversary!
*The set-up in the Agganis Arena looks really good. The Ultimate-X set is already in place, possibly hinting that it will open the show.
*The pre-show starts with the singing of the National Anthem by a man who is local to the Boston area. And he does a really good job with the high notes.
*We see Nic Nemeth walking! Mike Santana is walking!
*We cut to Tom Hannifan and Matt Rehwoldt at ring side, as they have JOE armbands on for the passing of the late Joe Doering. A very nice touch.
*The Suit Daria Rae is here. She joins Tom and Matt at ringside for the pre-show.
*The panel discuss Xia Brookside turning on Yei Ling Lee, and Daria says she knows a thing or two about friends becoming foes. That leads us into a video package for the match, from the good times to the bad times. Matt and Daria taking pot shots at Tom warms my heart lol.
*Gia Miller is in the concourse with a bunch of fans, and they pimp the Harpoon IPA endorsement that they have. The fans Gia asks all agree that Xia is going to win the Knockout’s Title.
*It’s time for our first match on the pre-show, and it’s Indi Hartwell, Mara Sade, and Elayna Black!
*As expected, Elyana tries to talk down to both Indi and Mara, so the babyfaces work together until Black is out of the ring.
*Tom and Matt indicate that the winner of this match could be the #1 contender for the Knockout’s Title. So, if my prediction of Xia winning is true, then the winner of this match has to be Indi or Mara then.
*Fans seem to be the most interested in Indi in this match.
*There is a fan in the back left corner facing hard cam that has an Eagles winter hat on. And as much as I love that as a fellow Birds fan, I can’t help but think how HOT that has to be.
*Sade with a crossbody block to both Black and Hartwell, thus proving that she doesn’t care about heel/face dynamics.
*Elayna Black wins with the Blackout to Sade after she hit a beautiful moonsault to Hartwell. A fine match, and a nice way to open up the pre-show!
*Traci Brooks is here! she announces that they will be introducing the Knockouts TV Title, which will only be defended on Impact! Sixteen ladies will do battle in a single elimination tournament, and the winner becomes the first Champion!
*Shill for IHeart Radio App.
*Tom and Matt go from announce desk to ringside, as Daria and the guys discuss how important this title is, and Daria insists that this is the strongest the Knockouts Division has ever been. This leads into a discussion about the Knockouts Title match. Tom asks Matt what he thinks about the match, and Tom says, “Dead people should stay dead.” Hard to argue that point, I suppose. Daria asks Matt if he is scared, and Rehwoldt says no.
*The panel turns their attention to the AJ Francis and Elijah situation, and we get the video package for said match later today.
*It’s not a show without the Hometown Man, proudly wearing his Celtics jersey! And I don’t know about you, but his theme song sounds eerily similar to Jerry Lynn’s “Born and Raised in the USA” theme song. HTM joins the panel, and he’s imbibing in that Harpoon IPA. They discuss if the Celtics should trade Jaylen Brown, and everyone says no. Tom asks if the Patriots will go back to the Superbowl, HTM says yes, and the Red Sox will beat the Yankees tonight. He also says his good friend Elijah will beat A.J. Francis before he takes off.
*The panel discuss the “No Surrender Match” between Eddie Edwards and Moose. A reminder of the rules, if JDC throws in the towel for Moose, then he loses the match, if Alisha throws in the towel for her husband, then Eddie loses.
*The panel discuss the Tag Team Title Ladder Match.
*The Panel now discuss the Ultimate-X-Division Title match tonight, and they discuss how important Amazing Red was to TNA and how he helped to build what the X-Division has turned into today. I’m kind of curious as to why they keep harping on this being the “contractual obligation” for Slater’s title shot.
*The panel start to discuss the International Title match, but that brings out The Champion himself along with Tasha Steelz. Ali is tired of waiting to find out who he is facing tonight, and he wants Daria to tell him who his opponent is right now. Rae says she wants to tell him right now, but Santino Marella is out! He says that he knows Daria Rae was looking for an opponent for Ali, and so was he! Daria objects, but Santino says only his wife can tell him what to do, and you aren’t his wife. Daria: Thank goodness for that. So, in short, Ali will face BOTH opponents that Daria and Santino picked for him, and he will find out when the fans find out. Obviously, this doesn’t make Ali and Steelz very happy.
*We cut to Gia Miller and two IHeart Radio guys, and they try to make themselves into something important. The one guy takes off his jacket and shows off his New York Yankees tattoo, which Miller covers up with her hand. I wouldn’t mind if she did that to me. ANYWAY, after some local pandering by the other guy, the guy from Boston wants to see the Hardy’s win the Tag Team Titles again.
*Tom and Matt welcome in Sean Grande, the voice of the Boston Celtics. Tom says he is such a big wrestling fan that he had Mick Foley officiate his wedding, and Tom says, “I’m surprised he remembered what to say.” Ouch.
*The World Class Maniac is here to make Ricky Sosa learn a thing or two about respect!
*Ricky won’t be intimidated by Young early on, which makes Young a little bit hesitant.
*Big Senton Atomico from Sosa, but Young takes advantage in the ring by dropping Sosa on the top rope and hitting an Avalanche DVD. When Sosa kicks out, Eric spends too much time threatening to punch the ref.
*Sosa regains control with a Snap Rana with Young on the top, and the fans are very much behind him.
*Sosa with a corkscrew kick and a moonsault, but EY still kicks out.
*Young gouges the eyes, hits the pop-up neck breaker and the elbow drop from the top, but Sosa kicks out. Eric doesn’t threaten the ref this time.
*I’m kind of surprised that Young doesn’t have a JOE arm band on, since Doering was in Violent by Design.
*Very nice sequence where Sosa hits a Northern Lights Suplex seamlessly into the Falcon Arrow!
*One Blue Thunder Bang later, and that Ricky is our winner, and my official predications are off to a 1-0 start!
*Ad for Thursday Night Impact incoming! It’s brand new from Albany, New York!
*Daria Rae departs, allowing Ace Steel to join the panel so they can discuss the World Heavyweight Title match. The cut doesn’t come through, as we instead see the ring crew set up the yellow cables for the Ultimate-X match. Okay NOW we’re trying this again, as the guys discuss the Nemeth-Santana match.
*The panel kicks it to Gia, who is back in the concourse with the fans. Back at the desk, Ace says that Nemeth has Santana’s number.
IT’S GO-TIME FOR SLAMMIVERSARY!
The show opens with a ten-bell salute for Joe Doering. The roster is on the stage as the bell rings. Cody Deaner says he could talk about Doering all night, but he wants to highlight three things. Loyalty. If you were his friend, then you were his friend forever. Passion. He hit the road and was away from his family to achieve his dream. Cody knows a thing or two about that. Strength. Cody was working with Joe when the doctor cut his head open and told him that he would have to stop wrestling, but Joe told the doctors screw you, he was coming back to wrestling. Cody got to sit by Joe in his hospital bed to tell him how much he loved him and to tell him goodbye. And tonight, we all tell Doering how much we love him. Tonight, we dedicate tonight to Doering, and with all of our loyalty, our strength, and our passion, we will bring it into the ring. Let’s blow the roof off of this place. And Joe, this one is for you!
We get the graphic before we hit the cold open for the show. Great video package, as I will always enjoy that historical footage, namely from 2005 to 2009.
Tom and Matt welcome us to the show proper, and Amazing Red is here for the first time in 15 years for the opening match!
TNA X-Division Title Ultimate-X Match: Cedric Alexander (C) vs. Amazing Red vs. Frankie Kazarian vs. Fabian Aichner vs. Mr. Elegance vs. KC Navarro vs. Leon Slater
RIP to my fingers lol. Everyone brawls as we get underway. Slater looks to dive onto three of the guys, but he is caught, allowing Aichner to hit a CANNONBALL to everyone else on the floor. In the ring, however, Kazarian wisely goes after the title, but Red stops him and then hits a Senton through the ropes onto the human mass at ring side.
Back in the ring, and Alexander hits a Michinoku Driver on Red. Alexander goes to climb, but he gets dropped on his balls courtesy of Navarro, who engages in battle with Slater. Navarro does the Spider-Man in the ropes, and Slater looks legit confused lol. He gets tripped up by JC and hit with the 305! KC goes climbing, but Slater catches him. After a series of reversals, Slater ends up in the ropes again, but Leon blocks KC from hitting another 305. Slater throws Navarro into Aichner, and he hits him with a DDT. Slater on the floor now, where Mr. Elegance hits him with a SPEAR and he chucks him into the truss.
Mr. Elegance goes climbing, but he is cut down by Aichner. Aichner, Kazarian, Red, AND Alexander all climb the cables towards the title. Cedric is the first to fall, and he pulls Fabian down with him. Red and Kazarian keep fighting, but eventually they both lose their grip. That leaves Mr. Elegance to climb, but Navarro intercepts him with a Blessing in Disguise!
Red is back in the ring, and he stares down KC before they show respect and then get into it. Code Red from the innovator of said move! Kazarian is back, but he too falls victim to the Code Red! Red goes to climb, but Slater dropkicks him. Slater ends up getting trapped, and it LOOKED like Red was supposed to an Avalanche Code Red, but Slater ended up taking himself to the mat and then falling down. It just looked awkward.
Kazarian and Alexander do battle in the corner, and Frankie posts Cedric and leaps up onto the cables. Here is Aicher, who takes Kazarian to the mat with a crossbody block! Slater starts to ascend, but Navarro and Red join him. Here comes Aichner, and this isn’t going to end well. Everyone is in the corner now. Everyone except Slater is fighting it out, as Red and Cedric hit the floor. SLATER WIPES OUT EVERYONE ELSE WITH A DOUBLE LARIAT FROM THE CABLES! Slater starts to climb, but he’s joined by Red. The title has been unstrapped and they fight over it. The belt falls from their grasp right into Cedric’s hands, thus making him the winner!
WINNER: Cedric Alexander (And Still!)
TIME: 10:30
THOUGHTS: Fantastic choice to open the show, as you knew these guys were all going to leave it in the ring. I wish the match had been given a few more minutes, but it was great for what we got. It was also a clever way to ensure that Cedric kept his title.
RATING: ****
Post-match, Slater and Red show respect, and Frankie has a mic. He wants to pay respect to Red, because out of all generations that have wowed the fans, he has been the true highlight. He forever has Frankie’s respect, and he wants Red to look at the video screen. We get the same promo that they cut on Amazing Red during the Pre-show, but now it ends with the announcement that at Bound Flor Glory, Amazing Red is going into the TNA Hall of Fame! No pun intended, but that is Amazing! Frankie embraces Red and takes his leave, as we see Mike Santana on the ramp. YOU DESERVE IT and THANK YOU RED chants from the Boston crowd.
Tom and Matt run down the rest of the card for tonight’s show. A.J. Francis and Elijah are coming up next, and if Elijah defeats Francis, he will get his name, his music, and his IP back from AJ. That leads to the video package that played during the pre-show.
Expressions is here. I have no idea who he is, but he wants us to do two things. First, pull out your cell phones and capture this moment, and second, shut your mouth when I am talking! He is here to represent the best big man in the business, and someone who will be happy to leave Boston just like Jaylen Brown, AJ Francis! Francis makes it rain hundred-dollar bills, but we see that the bills have his face on it lol.
Elijah is out now, and he performs the famous riff from “More Than a Feeling” by Boston. He wants to know who wants to walk with Elijah, and he plays “Seven Nation Army” to the ring. Expressions says to stop that, because this is the IP of Francis. Okay, but it’s Meg and Jack White’s IP? Elijah says this is the worst episode of Fresh Prince of Belair with no Skill Uncle Phil and Jackass Jazzy Jeff. LMAO! Elijah says TNA means we Walk This Way. Really hitting all the Boston music notes lol.
A.J. Francis W/Expressions vs. Elijah
Elijah hits the jumping knee strike to the face of Francis straight away, but AJ kicks out at two. Francis crawls towards the ropes, but Elijah runs around the ring and hits the drive-by knee strike. Back in the ring, and Francis sends Elijah to the apron, where Expressions grabs him by the foot behind the ref’s back. Francis knocks Elijah to the floor, and he feigns flying, but Francis stops and he does the Italian fuck you lol. Elijah is back and he looks to Walk with Elijah, but AGAIN Expressions is on the apron, which allows Francis to try the Styles Clash. Elijah escapes, but he runs into the right hand from Francis.
Francis chokes Elijah with his knee, and Expressions attacks again behind the ref’s back. Tennessee Whiskey from Francis, and Expressions dust that dirt off his shoulder. Francis is back in the ring, looking for a piledriver, but Elijah deadlifts Francis and hits an Alabama Slam across the ring! Elijah with strikes in the corner, and he asks us who wants to walk with him. Elijah with a STUNNER, but Francis kicks out at two. Elijah heads to the top rope, but he jumps right into the TFL from Francis for another two.
Francis places Elijah on the top rope, but that sets up Elijah to walk the top rope. Jokes on him, though, as Francis catches him and hits his own Alabama Slam. Francis heads to the top and hits the moonsault, but Elijah kicks out at two! Francis heads to the top again, but Elijah follows up and they trade hands. Elijah pulls Francis off the top rope, and he hits the Highway Man’s Farewell, but Francis kicks out at 2.5!
Expressions tries to slide Elijah’s guitar into Francis, but Elijah intercepts it. Expressions tries to beg off with AJ’s money, but Elijah smashes the guitar over his head! Francis uses the distraction to roll-up Elijah into a series of Powerbombs and then the MONEY Clash, but Elijah STILL kicks out at two. Elijah to the top, Francis looking Down Payment, but Elijah fights him off and walks the ropes into the Drifter Destroyer, and Elijah has his IP back once more!
WINNER: Elijah
TIME: 9:10
THOUGHTS: This match felt like it was moving in slow motion, and all of the interference attempts from Expressions didn’t help it. Also, they just started this feud less than a month ago and it’s over already. They should have just wrapped this up on Impact instead.
RATING: **1/2
Post-match, Elijah sees a guitar case has appeared in the ring, and he opens it, and this guitar has orange lights all over it! Very cool!
Gia Miller is in the back with World Champion Mike Santana. Santana wants to know what’s good, Boston? He is a heart and soul guy, he has given everything to TNA since he walked in this door back in 2017, and he will continue to do that. Nic Nemeth, let’s get it!
It’s time for the Knockouts Title match! Allie and Rosemary are out first, followed by Iceman, who does his usual schtick before introducing the Elegance Brand. Great to see Ash is still here, I thought she was taking another break.
TNA Knockouts Titles Match: The Elegance Brand (C) vs. Demon Bunny (Rosemary and Allie
Rosemary and M by Elegance start this one off. M screams and charges at Rosemary, who goes behind and slams her to the mat. M tries to escape, but Rosemary keeps her pinned and lands straight right hands. Rosemary tags in Allie, slams M, and then slams Allie on top of M, but she kicks out at one. Heather with the tag, Allie with a side headlock and repeat shoulder tackles. Kick to the gut from Allie and she hits another one to the head. Heather stumbles to the corner, where Allie hits a running clothesline.
M tries to enter the ring, but Rosemart intercepts her and both Elegance Members get the Tarantula Treatment! Ash enters the ring and injects herself, which allows the Elegance Brand to take this match over. M takes Heather and spins her around and slams her onto Allie, who kicks out at two. Heather keeps Allie grounded with a headlock, Allie to her feet, but Heather rips her back down to the mat by here hair.
Tag to M, who hits a snapmare into a dropkick to the spine of Allie, who again kicks out at two. Allie creates separation with a swinging neck breaker and goes for the tag, but Ash distracts Paige the ref, allowing Iceman to pull Rosemary off the apron. Heather is back in, and she hits a draping DDT to Allie. Heather runs the ropes, M with the blind tag, and Heather hits a dropkick to Allie in the corner, followed by M loading up the Toast to Toast! Allie jumps up to her knees and screams, which freaks out M, and both ladies hit each other with a lariat.
Rosemary finally gets the tag, as does Heather, and Rosemary throws her around with ease. M and Ash have a seance on the floor, as Rosemary hits a corner clothesline into a side slam for a two. Rosemary rolls up Heather, but M made the tag, allowing Heather to drop Rosemary and M hits the moonsault, but Allie is back with the save. Allie hits a DVD on Heather, M hits Allie with a Blockbuster, and Rosemary hits M with a SPEAR! The cover, but Ash pulls her out of the ring. In front of the ref. Well, okay then. Rosemary chases Ash around the ring, but she hides behind Iceman and wants to fight Rosemary. Rosemary spits the green mist in his eyes! Back in the ring, and the Elegance Brand’s team move backfires on them. Allie with the Codebreaker to M, and we have NEW Champions!
WINNERS: Demon Bunny (And NEW!)
TIME: 9:40
THOUGHTS: Rosemary and Allie were on a serious heater since Allie came back to the company, so it should be no surprise that they won here. I will say, again, that Maggie has a LOT of potential, and as a singles star, she would thrive.
RATING: ***1/2
Santino Marella is on his phone in the back. Daria Rae is here to tell him that he looks dumber than he usually does. Marella says to relax, but Daria says you shouldn’t have put your nose in my business. Santino has dad jokes, and Daria storms off in anger.
It’s time for the International Title match, as we will learn who Ali is facing in this match. I like the people on the side of the stage with the flags from various countries for Ali’s entrance. Opponent number one is Rich Swann! And our second challenger is Uhaa Nation AKA the former Apollo Crews!
TNA International Title Match: Mustafa Ali vs. Rich Swann vs. Uhaa Nation
Ali makes the mistake of getting into Uhaa’s face straight away, so he military presses Ali out of the ring. Nation and Swann trade for a bit, but Ali is back to roll-up Swann and try to retain his title, but he kicks out at two. Swann sends Ali from the ring again, and Uhaa is back. He fights with Swann on the apron, big boot to the face of Swann, Uhaa ducks as Ali comes running through, and he lands on the floor. This allows Swann the chance to hit a Snap Rana from the apron!
Back in the ring, and Uhaa climbs to the top and hits a Frog Splash to Swann, but Rich kicks out at two. As soon as Ali returns to the ring, both guys cut him off. Uhaa looks to suplex Swann, but Ali grabs ahold of Swann as Uhaa is on the mat. AVALANCHE STYLES CLASH FROM THE TOP BY ALI RIGHT ONTO UHAA’S BACK! Swann and Ali trade now, and Swann’s CUTTER sees Ali pop-up and he hits a Powerbomb! The cover, but Uhaa makes the save. He hits repeat powerbombs to Ali, but it’s Swann’s turn to save the match.
Swann is on the apron, as Uhaa charges him, but he runs into the ring steps instead. Bell Clap from Ali, but Swann gets the last laugh with a Snap Rana from the apron. Swann hits a moonsault to Uhaa and sends him into the ring, where Swann hits him with a 450, but Uhaa is out at two. Ali is back, but he rolls right into a release German from Uhaa! Swann eats a German with the bridge from Uhaa, but Ali flies in with an elbow drop to make the save!
Swann and Ali trade strikes over the body of Uhaa in the middle of the ring. Swann jumps off the back of Uhaa and hits a Tornado DDT to Ali onto the back of Uhaa! Swann heads to the top, both men are down, and Swann hits a Frog Splash on Ali! The cover, but Ali bridges out, only to collapse to the mat. Back to the top goes Swann, but Uhaa cuts him off and hits an Avalanche Vertical Suplex! Uhaa goes to Powerbomb Ali, but Tasha is on the apron to distract him. She points up the ramp, and here comes Special Agent Zero. This distraction allows Ali to hit a Tope Suicida to the back of Uhaa.
Zero takes apart the ring steps and he buries Uhaa with them, as Swann hits a corkscrew kick to Ali! Swann off the ropes, but Ali catches him from behind with the backslide into the London Bridge for the win!
WINNER: Mustafa Ali (And Still!)
TIME: 9:40
THOUGHTS: Another surprisingly short match. However, it delivered and was balls to the wall the entire time. Hopefully Uhaa Nation is here to stay in TNA.
RATING: ****1/4
Video package incoming for our next match, which is the “No Surrender” showdown between Moose and Boston’s own, Eddie Edwards! We get an additional short video package for Eddie before he makes his entrance. He gets in Sean Grande’s face and shoves him, as Alisha does the shape of the L on her forehead! We see Moose and JDC walking in the back, and they approach Uhaa Nation. Moose embraces him and he says he is going to take care of Eddie Edwards.
No Surrender Match: Eddie Edwards W/Alisha vs. Moose w/JDC
As a reminder, the loser of the match is the man whose second throws in the towel on their behalf.
Eddie looks to get the upper hand on Moose with a kick to the face, but he catches Eddie on his Tope and powerbombs him onto the apron! Moose powerbombs Eddie again, and he takes apart the ring steps, but that backfires when Eddie hits a back body drop to Moose onto said steps. Alisha talks smack to Moose, and JDC tells her to SHAD UP lol. They also smack talk Moose’s wife and son at ring side.
Eddie returns Moose to the ring, but his corner charge misses, and Moose clotheslines Eddie to the floor. He proceeds to lift up the ring skirt and sends Eddie back into the ring. Moose pulls out a table, to the approval of the fans, but he takes WAY too long fiddling with the table, and Eddie baseball slide kicks it into his face. Eddie walks around like he has a board up his arse and rolls Moose back into the ring. Edwards with chops, but Moose eats them. He slaps Eddie and rips his System shirt off, and both men trade strikes. FUCK YOU EDDIE, says Moose, Eddie with an enziguri, Moose with a headbutt, but Eddie decks Moose with a lariat! The Boston Knee Party connects, and JDC contemplates throwing in the towel. More to the point, he’s just trying to stay away from Alisha. Frankly, I can’t blame him.
Eddie goes under the ring and grabs a steel chain. He smacks Moose with it and then wraps it around his knee. He tries another Boston Knee Party, but he takes way too long and Moose counters him with a powerbomb. Moose sets the table up in the corner and he tells Alisha to throw in the towel, which prompts Alisha to flip him off. Moose runs in, but Eddie catches him with the chain wrapped knee. He lands a couple more knees with it before hitting a basement thrust kick.
Eddie heads to the outside as we see JDC and Alisha arguing. Eddie returns with zip ties, and he ties the left hand of Moose to the ropes. He eventually gets his right arm tied to the rope. Eddie goes back under the ring for a kendo stick. Eddie canes the crap out of Moose as JDC gets on the apron. He contemplates throwing in the towel, Moose tells him NO, and JDC spits on Eddie! Mosse’s wife jumps the barricade and she’s going to throw in the towel (which wouldn’t be legal?) and Eddie grabs her by the hair! Eddie throws Moose’s wife to the floor and then attacks JDC! Moose’s son has jumped the guard rail, and Eddie throws him into the ring. Moose is irate, and Eddie wants to put him through the table, but Moose’s kid low blows Eddie! Resse slaps Alisha, and Moose has freed himself! Moose with one SPEAR, and he wraps the chain around himself and hits another SPEAR! Moose has Eddie lined up for the table, but Alisha throws in the towel!
WINNER: Moose
TIME: 13:00
THOUGHTS: Pretty good match, I dare say. The match was rife with drama over who would throw in the towel, Eddie played the dickhead heel in his hometown, and in the end, Moose got what he wanted, which was the win over Eddie to complete defeating everyone in the System. Shocked JDC didn’t turn, though.
RATING: ***3/4
Post-match, JDC talks down Moose so he can hit a STUNNER to Eddie! Eddie stumbles to the table, and Moose spears both Alisha AND Eddie through the table! Moose, his wife, his son, and JDC all celebrate in the ring!
We see Nic Nemeth and Mike Santana getting ready in the back for the main event later tonight. But first, it’s time for the Knockouts Title match! We get the video package that played during the pre-show.
Xia Brookside make her entrance with her best William Regal face on. Lei Ying Lee brandishes a Ninja sword as opposed to her Chinese fan to do her entrance with. Pretty neat.
TNA Knockouts Title Match: Lei Ying Lee (C) vs. Xia Brookside
McKenzie Mitchell with the in-ring introductions for this one. The bell rings, and despite ALL of the bad blood that exists, we are off to a tepid start. Both ladies argue, and Xia smacks Lee in the face. Xia begs off, but Lee with the double leg and she lays in the strikes. Lee chucks Xia across the ring by her hair not once but twice, and for Xia, it sure wasn’t nice!
Lee trips up Brookside, kicks her in the head, and then hits a running dropkick. Lee again throws Xia down to the mat and then grabs her by her tights and pulls her back into the ring. Lee yells at Xia and then hits a release German. Lee kicks Xia the rest of the way out of the ring. Lee heads to the apron and, perhaps illogically, throws herself into Xia headfirst. Lee slams Xia’s face off the apron for a bit before breaking the count, and she heads back out to kick Xia in the midsection. Lee sends Xia careening into the ring post with a thrust kick, but predictably, Lee kicks the ring post on her follow-up kick.
Time for Xia to turn the tables, as she breaks the count and then proceeds to work over the knee of Lee on the apron. Xia tries to stop a charging Xia, but Brookside grabs her good leg and lays in forearms. Xia drops Lee to the mat and traps Lee’s leg against the bottom rope to a count of four. Xia does it again, but this time she hits a dropkick to the leg. Xia grounds Lee with a variation of the Figure-Four, before giving it up, as she mounts Lee. She interpolates shots to the head with shot to the knees. Lee spits in her face and then screams for more. Xia tries to oblige, but Lee uses her head to repeatedly strike Xia. Brookside kicks out at two, and Xia goes back after the knee. Xia loads up the YES kicks, but she throws to many, and Lee catches her leg and she applies the single leg crab!
Xia fights her way free, but Lee is back with the thousand hand slaps and some more kicks. Xia hits the mat, as Lee tries to get feeling back into her damaged leg. Lee heads to the top and lands the mounted punches. She gingerly steps off the top rope and hits an Exploder to Xia, who kicks out at two. Lee looking Warrior’s Way, but Xia escapes and chop block the bad knee of Lee. Xia sits Lee on the top and looks for the Brooksy Bomb, but Lee fights her off. She sneaks underneath as Xia has grabbed ahold of the turnbuckle pad and Lee hits the powerbomb. Lee heads to the top again, but Xia is back to her feet, and she drops Lee face first onto the exposed turnbuckle! Xia with the Darkside DDT, and we have a new Champion!
WINNER: Xia Brookside (And NEW!)
TIME: 12:00
THOUGHTS: We telegraphed a title change when Lee beat Grace and Xia turned on Lee, but this match was still pretty good. Both ladies worked a lot of psychology between Lee’s hatred for Xia, and Brookside working over the damaged knee of Lee.
RATING: ***1/2
Ad to remind us that Lockdown is coming to Chicago on August 23rd! Tom and Matt shill Bound for Glory on October 11th live in Tampa Bay and then announce that Destination-X is coming to Edmonton on November 15th! Tom and Matt then run down the tale of the tape for the upcoming Tag Team Title Match! Every heel team comes out first, and the Hardy’s come out to a concoction of their piano music and their usual theme song when they are “normal”.
TNA Tag Team Titles Ladder Match: The System (C) vs. The Hardy’s vs. The Righteous vs. The Great Hands
And we waste absolutely no time, as the Hardy’s use the ladders in the aisle to dispatch of all of the heels. They set up the ladder, but before they can climb, every team heel team is back in the match. The righteous take care of the Great Hands and then go after the Champions. Vincent jumps over the top and nearly misses the landing, but Dutch doesn’t, as he hits a Senton Atomico to everyone on the floor!
Hotch has Vincent on his shoulders, and he hits a cannonball senton onto the field! That allows Skyler in the ring to climb the ladder, but Myers is back and he sends him from the ladder, but rather than crashing to the mat, he turns it into a moonsault on to everyone on the floor! The Hardy’s are back, and each brother has their own ladder. They get fairly close, but the Righteous stop them getting there. Vincent takes out Jeff, Matt takes out Dutch, and that leaves them to climb the ladders. Matt proceeds to DELETE Vincent against every rung on the ladder.
The Hardy’s give up the climb to head to the floor and out comes a table. The Great Hands break up whatever they had in mind, as they chuck Matt into the ring steps, and then use the ring steps to smack Jeff with. The Great Hands set up their own table, but The System ambush the Great Hands, and they, too, add another table to the mix, giving us three. Here comes the Righteous, as they attack the System, and they, too, set up another table, making four. The System go back into the ring to grab their titles, but the Great Hands stop that. Hotch and Skylar have the ladder in hand, which Bronson runs into and then he squashes both Great Hands.
Vincent and Dutch, apparently, left to go to the back, and they bring down the Wicked Garden inspired ladder. They throw it into the ring, and Bronson tries to fight off both men, but Dutch powerslams Bronson into the ladder! They free up Bronson from the barbwire so Dutch can slam him on the ladder again. Vincent with a Senton from the top, and they proceed to slam the ladder repeatedly on Bronson. Myers is finally back, and he SPEARS Vincent, but Dutch slams him on top of the ladder, which keeps hitting Bronson.
The Great Hands are back, as they send The Righteous from the ring. The Great Hands dispatch of Matt and they climb the ladder, but Myers and Vincent are back to drag them off the ladder. Both Vincent and Myers start climbing now. They meet at the very top of the ladder, and Vincent has Lily of the Valley! He shoves it into the mouth of Myers! Myers is able to knock Vincent from the top, but he can’t complete the climb, as he collapses off the ladder and to the floor.
Bronson is back, as he hits Bear Down on Vincent onto the Wicked Garden Ladder! Bronson’s ass took most of that damage though, to be fair. Both Bronson and Dutch are at the top of the ladder fighting it out. The Hardy’s are back, and they shove Dutch and Bronson off the ladders and through the tables set up on the floor! The Hardy’s path is clear, but the Great Hands are back to stop them. The Hardy’s stack both Hotch and Skyler onto the makeshift ladder bridge on the floor. Jeff takes off his shirt, much to the delight of the crowd, and he climbs the Wicked Garden Ladder! WICKED SWANTON BY JEFF, SENDING HOTCH AND SKYLER INTO THE LADDER AND BREAKING IT! Jeff and Matt now have a clear path to the titles, and they are Champions for a fourth time!
WINNERS: The Hardy’s (AND NEW/REPEAT!)
TIME: 17:15
THOUGHTS: First of all, I am happy for Matt and Jeff making history here, and the match was crazy. But I can’t help but wonder why they dropped the titles to the System in the first place if they were just going to win them back here. Stacking the deck with heel teams probably should have telegraphed a win for Matt and Jeff, but it is what it is.
RATING: ****
The main event World Title is coming up next, but before we get there, we see Mike Santana with a notepad and a pen in hand as he’s standing on a rooftop. He says that Latino wrestlers got a gateway into wrestling thanks to Konnan, and it is Mike’s turn to pay it back. Usually, Konnan was a scarecrow, outstanding in his field, but on October 11th, he will take his rightful place in the TNA Hall of Fame! Wow, so we got three entries into the HOF this year with ODB, Amazing Red, and Konnan. I feel like they’ve never put more than two people in at the same time.
Video package for the main event World Title match! Nic Nemeth makes his entrance with his CYS Trophy. He fakes giving it to Carlos Silva but instead enters the ring with it and he gives it to the ref instead. Mike Santana, as usual, enters through the people.
TNA World Heavyweight Title Match: Mike Santana (C) vs. Nic Nemeth
McKenzie with the in-ring introductions for this one. Santana gets a big YANKEES SUCK chant before the bell, but he takes it all in stride. The bell rings, as both men struggle for control early on. Nemeth lays out, but Santana runs through and hits a shoulder tackle, sending Nemeth from the ring. Both men play cat and mouse entering the ring now, and the fans are now showing their disdain for Cleveland lol.
Santana sends Nemeth from the ring and gives chase, only for Nemeth to slide back into the ring. Nemeth does this again, but this time, Mike doesn’t take the bait, and he boots Nic in the face. Santana takes off with a Senton Atomico, wiping out Nemeth! Santana chops Nemeth around the entire ring side area, only taking a break to stop the count. Nemeth tries to duck another chop only for Santana to kick him in the back of the head. Santans throws Nic into the scrappily constructed timekeeper’s area.
Ryan Nemeth is here, and he throws off his shirt, and he wants some of Santana! Mike gets into his face, they exchange words, but the ref dramatically ejects Ryan. This allows Nic the chance to clock Santana with his CYS Trophy! Nemeth rolls into the ring, but I guess he doesn’t realize that if Santana gets counted out, he won’t win the World Title. Santana does make it in at the count of nine, as we see he has been busted open. Nemeth works over the wound on the forehead of Santana and drops an elbow for a two. Nic goes into the Cross-face, Santana rolls away, but Nemeth with another elbow for another two.
Nemeth chokes Santana in the ropes to the count of four. Nic sizes up Santana and applies the sleeper hold. Santana buys a temporarily respite by backing Nemeth into the corner, but Nic goes right back to the Sleeper. Santana powers up and he drops Nemeth down to the mat to break the hold. Both men to their feet, they trade hands, Santana off the ropes with a flying clothesline. Santana counters Nemeth’s go-behind by shaking him off and hitting the Rolling Buck Fifty for a two.
Nemeth fights off Santana’s piledriver attempt, Santana counters the sleeper, and he catches a leaping Nemeth with a DVD. Santana loads up the Block, but he Spins it right into a SUPERKICK from Nemeth! The cover, but Santana is out at two. Nemeth with a DDT from the corner into the Danger Zone! The cover, but Santana kicks out at 2.8! TNA chants, as Nemeth hits another SUPERKICK, but Santana no-sells it and hits Spin the Block! The cover, but Nemeth kicks out at 2.8!
THIS IS AWESOME chants now, as Santana loads up another Spin the Block, but Nemeth kicks Santana in the knee and then in the head! The cover, but Santana is out at one! Santana with his own SUPERKICK! Spin the Block, but Santana collapses into Nemeth! Nic holds up Santana long enough to hit the Danger Zone, and Nic has won the World Title again!
WINNER: Nic Nemeth (And NEW/REPEAT!)
TIME: 14:45
THOUGHTS: I pointed out the obvious during my prediction’s column, but with the WWE’s obvious interest in Santana, he was going to have to drop the title someone at some point before he took off for NXT. And to be fair, they could do a lot worse than Nemeth, at least until they pick through the post-WM cuts that will be available in July. A great match between two great pros, even if the match ending was fairly obvious.
RATING: ***3/4
Post-match, Ryan is back to celebrate with is big brother, as he brought two bottles of Champaigne with him! Silva awards Nemeth the belt and he puts it on backwards and poses, and with that, we are done!
