The newly returned Kevin Owens and CM Punk came face to face on WWE Smackdown in a segment that turned personal. The first segment of Friday’s WWE Smackdown featured Cody Rhodes, Punk and Owens as first Rhodes and Punk went back and forth a bit, then Rhodes left to give Owens his time.

The segment kicked off with Rhodes coming down to the ring and talking about Randy Orton attacking him at SummerSlam during his match with Punk. Rhodes said that he assumed Punk didn’t know Orton was going to get involved in the match, which led to Punk coming down to the ring.

Punk asked if Rhodes had any questions for him and ultimately confirmed he had no idea Orton was going to get involved. He said he wasn’t happy about the matter either and offered to help Rhodes find Orton so they could beat his ass. Rhodes said he would do it on his own, and Punk said Rhodes can have a rematch whenever he wants.

As Rhodes was heading to the back, Owens came down to the ring. The new #1 contender to Punk’s title accepted the mic from Rhodes, and he and Punk began mouthing off before Nick Aldis came down to the ring.

Owens said they’re professionals and that he does want to wrestle, something he wanted for 17 months while he was out of action. Punk gave a golf clap to Owens saying he was back, and Owens took Punk to task by saying he hasn’t changed despite people telling Owens for years to give Punk another chance. He called Punk an “arrogant sociopath” and Punk said that Owens above all people benefitted from his knocking down doors. He recalled how WWE called him “skinny fat” and how Owens wouldn’t have been on the company’s radar without him.

Owens said that it’s been 10 years since he was a world champion, and now he gets to win the title and humble Punk at the same time. Things escalated from there until Owens said that he wouldn’t let the business turn him into a “miserable piece of s**t “like Punk and a shoving match broke out.

You can see clips from the match below. In a later segment, Owens told Nick Aldis that he wanted his Undisputed WWE Championship match against Punk at the August 21 episode of WWE Smackdown, which takes place in Toronto, Ontario.
