Kris Statlander Reflects on Competing in the First-Ever Women’s Blood & Guts, Setting a New Bar With the Match

During a recent interview with New York Post Sports, AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander discussed competing in the first-ever women’s Blood & Guts match last week on AEW Dynamite. Below are some highlights:

“Yeah. I mean, I think all of us collectively had a shockingly an amazing time doing it. We, a lot of us, are insane people, and it was very enjoyable getting to kind of showcase another side of our abilities and sometimes putting those moments together, whatnot. It’s not really about you know thinking like we have to go out there and we have to do this, this, and this. I think we just have a really. We have so many talented people that just like we naturally were able to come up with all of these moments and memorable things and exceed all these expectations because of the caliber of performer that we have in the match itself.”

On Whether They Set a New Bar With the Women’s Blood & Guts Match

“Yeah, I think so. I think it’s definitely a bar has been set, especially with it being the first one ever for the women and also not just being the first one to ever happen. So there was already a bar set for what these types of matches entail, but I do think we did a lot of very crazy things. I do think a lot of us have a lot more, even crazier ideas. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don’t fit. And you know, I think constantly with women in hardcore matches expect the unexpected because you don’t know where our brains go sometimes.”

The first women’s Blood & Guts Match saw the heel team of Triangle of Madness, Megan Bayne, Marina Shafir, and Mercedes Mone pick up the victory. They defeated Statlander’s team, which also included Jamie Hayter, Willow Nightingale, Harley Cameron, Toni Storm, and Mina Shirakawa.

Now, Kris Statlander must look forth to AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone, as they will face off for Statlander’s AEW Women’s World Championship at this weekend’s AEW Full Gear 2025 event. The event takes place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday, November 22. It will be broadcast live on pay-per-view.
