David Finlay has been nearing the end of his NJPW contract, and a new report has an update on his status with the company. As reported, Finlay’s contract with NJPW was coming up and he was said to be interested in exploring outside options. Fightful Select reports that the time has come and Finlay’s contract is finished, making him a free agent.

Finley has interest from WWE, though the site reports that NJPW is actively trying to re-sign him. He has had conversations with WWE, and there was heavy speculation that he may join AEW where he would be following Clark Connors, who has exited NJPW and is working in AEW. It should be noted that AEW has not officially announced Connors as signed with them.

Finlay had an emotional farewell to the NJPW fanbase at NJPW New Beginning In Osaka on February 10th. After his loss to Callum Neman, Finlay bowed to the crowd and then hugged Gedo. He kissed the NJPW logo at the entranceway as well.

As of this writing, there is no word as of now where Finlay will ultimately end up. He has been with NJPW since 2015 and is a multi-time champion there, including being a two-time IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion.
