-Big one tonight as we have an Evolve Championship defense. I think it’s Harlem’s time, but lets see what they do.

-Opening package going over the importance of The Evolve Championship and they reference Austin Theory, Drew McIntyre, and Josh Briggs as being former Evolve Champions. Tonight it’s Rourke vs. Lewis! They always make Title defenses feels big on this show.

Chazz “Starboy” Hall vs. Max Abrams

-Backstage, Max Abrams tells the rest of the Mog Squad he has them booked at a retreat and he will handle things tonight. Mog Squad is coming off 2 losses last week, so Abrams has to get a win for his Squad. Max uses the ropes to force a break and shoots in for a take down, but Hall stuffs the attempt and gets back control. Abrams backs him into the corner and lands a back elbow. He runs into an elbow from Hall and then a head scissors. Monkey Flip out of the corner, but Hall walks into a right hand. Hall reverses a whip and gets a dropkick for two. Evolve facts pops up to remind us that Hall answered Mustafa Ali’s Open Challenge in TNA. I miss Ali on Main Event! Starboy starts flipping around the ring to avoid an Irish whip and hits a superkick. Hall tries to come off the apron, but Abrams catches him and hits a powerbomb on the apron. We take a break at 3:30.

-SummerSlam! Minnesota! Tickets on sale and I would keep waiting until the price drops, but I do that with shows and games I go to.

-Back at 4:20 with Abrams getting a dropkick for two. Stone tries to compare Max to Randy Orton and that one I am not buying. Disaster Kick gets two. Abrams with a reverse chinlock and that goes on for a bit. He finally releases and hits a Stinger Splash. A second one misses and Hall starts firing off leg kicks. Leg Lariat knocks Max down. Abrams explodes out of the corner with a Euro Uppercut. Falcon Arrow gets two. Hall with a small package for two, but not follow up as Abrams catches him with an elbow. Abrams with a slam and he heads up top, but misses a Frog Splash. They both struggle to get to their feet and start exchanging blows. Hall wins the battle and connects with a spinning heel kick. Abrams misses a clothesline in the corner and that lets Hall spring into a head scissors. Standing Sliced Bread gets two. He lands a head kick and heads up, but Max cuts him off. Standing Blockbuster gets two (Cortisol Spike I believe it was called). Hall avoids The Main Objective and hits a standing twisting moonsault for two. Sliced Bread is blocked and they fight for position. Abrams gets dumped to the floor and Hall goes to fly but Abrams rushes back into the ring. Hall lands an enziguiri from the apron. Here’s The Mog Squad, but ID 1.0 is out to fight them off. Abrams gets tossed onto the pile and as they get back to their feet, Hall hits The Sasuke Special. In the chaos Cap accidentally decks Hall and that leads to The Main Objective back in the ring and Abrams gets the pin at 12:41.

-It started slow, but they got it rolling in the second half. You knew people were going to be involved, but I like the twist of Cap accidentally costing Hall the match. Much better than just The Mog Squad cheating. Good match! ***

-Foreman Thatcher wishes Harlem Lewis good luck backstage.

-WWE Recruit and WWE ID video hyping Evolve as the first stop to being a WWE Superstar. They are looking for elite athletes and standout indie wrestlers.

-Sunday Night’s Main Event this September in Atlanta!

-Nikkita Lyons (Evolve Women’s Champion) is not happy with the party Sloane threw last week. She is going to send Laynie Luck back to the indies. She tells Sloane to tell Thatcher she wants her first Title defense against Laynie. Sloane wonders what’s happened to Wendy, but the Big Cat don’t care.

Layla Diggs vs. Veronica Haven

-Layla is out injured, but this was taped before that injury occurred. Veronica was part of the chaos last week and attacked Layla, so we have this match now. Layla attacks at the bell and shows off some great aggression. Layla lands a shoulder tackle and goes to an armbar. Veronica gets a side headlock, but Layla breaks rather easily. Haven tries a cross-body, but gets caught with a powerslam and standing moonsault for two. Haven snaps Layla’s neck off the top rope and hits a dropkick. Veronica sends her back into the ring and gets a two count. Sling Blade gets two! Layla starts her comeback and hits a spin kick followed by a side kick. Sit-out Gourdbuster gets two! Haven escapes a slam and goes for a roll-up, but Layla avoids and hits a Pele Kick. Layla heads up and hits a beautiful moonsault for the pin at 4:26.

-This was fine as Layla got the expected win, but Haven got a little shine. It’s been fun watching Layla improve since her first appearance on Level Up. **

-Foreman Thatcher wishes Aaron Rourke good luck backstage. He walks off to get ready and leaves Thatcher with ID1.0. Hall wants to know what’s up with the punch from Cap, who says it was an accident. Cap and Marcus wants a match against Thatcher’s former security. He reluctantly agrees though we don’t have an official date.

-Next week Nikkita defends against Laynie Luck!

-Also next week, Brooks Jensen vs. Elijah Holyfield!

WWE Evolve Championship: Aaron Rourke (c) vs. Harlem Lewis

-Rourke has been Champion since March 18, 2026 (when the show aired). Interesting they are giving this match less time than the opener. Lewis with a spear as the bell rings and hits The Boom Slang for two. Damn! That would have been a fantastic way to end this one. Lewis misses a charge in the corner and goes shoulder first into the post. Rourke hits a running kick from the apron and follows with a Blockbuster to the floor. Nice! Good start! Rourke off the middle ropes and hits a Code Breaker for two. We take a break at 1:37. Weird!

-WrestleMania 43: Saudi Arabia!

-Back at 2:24 with Lewis controlling with a reverse bear hug. We see he used a back breaker during the break to regain the advantage. Rourke throws elbows to escape, but one forearm to the back drops him. Rourke with another elbow and starts firing off kicks. Cartwheel into Eat De-Feet! Cool! Rourke charges in the corner but gets caught and Lewis hits another backbreaker. He holds as he tries to bend Rourke in half over his knee. He preps for a powerslam, but Rourke hits a desperation Satellite DDT. The crowd is behind Aaron in this one. I thought they would be wanting a title change. Running knee from Rourke and he follows with a series of running elbows and Euro uppercuts in the corner. Meteora hits! Split Legged Moonsault gets two. Lewis lands a forearm to the face and they start trading blows. Boot to the face by Lewis and one back from Rourke. High Knee from Lewis stuns Rourke. Rourke goes for the cartwheel again, but Harlem catches him in piledriver position. He opts for a powerbomb, but Rourke counters with a roll-up. Lewis rolls through though and hits a Claymore for one. There’s only one DM Hunk! Rourke is fired up and hits a kick to the head followed by a Ushigoroshi for two. They fight up top and Rourke goes for the Molly Go Round, but gets caught on the way down with a powerbomb. Boom Slang and we have a New Champion at 8:51.

-It was time as Rourke was a strong Champion, but it had to happen here. Good moment for Lewis and it was a really good match. Some strong drama though shorter than I thought they would get. Big way to close out one of the better episodes we’ve had recently. Congrats to the new Champ and thanks for the run Aaron. ***1/2

We started strong and closed with an even better match. History was made as Harlem becomes the third man to win the WWE Evolve Championship. As noted, it was the right time and once this match was official it seemed like it was a forgone conclusion. With that said they built in some good drama and Rourke went down swinging to end his reign. The middle match was a good buffer and gave Layla a win though I don't know if her injury affects anything they had planned for her going forward. Strong show this week and next week we start the Harlem Lewis Era.
