LuFisto Updates Fans on Her Stroke
LuFisto posted the following blog on her MySpace page, which is worth posting in its entirety:
Hello everybody,
I just want to take a few moments to explain what happened to me on Saturday night. I can see that a lot of people started to ask questions so I want to make sure that the real story is out and not speculations or lies.
On Saturday night, at 30 years old, I suffered a stroke.
For those who don’t know much about this stuff, a stroke, also called a cerebrovascular accident (CVA), is the rapidly developing loss of brain function due to disturbance in the blood supply to the brain, caused by a blocked or burst blood vessel.
About 30 minutes after my match at NCW last Saturday, I just couldn’t catch my breath. Then, I started to have a lot of pain in my chest and my left arm went numb. Laying down on the floor close to a door so I could breathe, as Guil Reno was trying to keep me awake, I lost sensation on the left side of my face. Wrestler Alex Price then made the right and quick decision to call the paramedics right away.
My left eye closed, my head was hurting, I couldn’t open my mouth completely and I was seeing light spots everywhere… The ambulance arrived and although I was answering all the questions, I was really confused and lost. Thanx to Guil and Camille though, I never lost conscience.
Mademoiselle Rachelle jumped in the ambulance with me as the sirens were heard. At the hospital, I quickly got a first scan and a bunch of test… Diagnosis: Possible CVA. They gave me aspirin and I can’t remember what they did after… I was then transferred to another hospital where a neurologist was waiting for me…
Oxygen tank, blood and strength tests… And my crying mom telling me everything would be alright… Then, it’s pretty much blurred until I got to an emergency room where my mom, her boyfriend and my partner in crime and dear friend Chakal came to see me.
So I had 2 cerebral scans, one MRI and they even checked my lungs. Final diagnosis: Minor stroke. However, the good news is that the CVA didn’t leave any permanent damage. No scars were found on the brain and I got my full strength back 2 days later.
Why did I get a stroke?
No, I’m not taking roids and I don’t take any drugs. I don’t even like drinking besides a glass of wine at diner once in a while. I didn’t get hit on the head and had no concussion since 2005. I don’t have any cholesterol problems, my heart is pumping at 65 beats a minutes which is awesome… However, I have a very bad family history…
Father: Died at 31 – Blood clot in heart vessel
Grand-mother: Died at 52 – Heart Attack
Aunt: Heart surgery because of blood clots at 31So there you have it… My bad family history and too much stress over the past 3 years almost killed me. As the doctor told me, if it wasn’t from my friend Alex responding so quickly to my situation, who knows where I would be right now… Alex Gauthier, aka Alex Price… Saved my life. I will forever be grateful. Much respect and love my friend.
The Future…
Here are a few things I need to do now: Drop my weight, take aspirin every day and must have more tests to see where that blood clot came from. I will also have to wear a bracelet showing what medication I’m on. The doctors are suspecting that I might have a heart malformation that causes clots to appear since it’s not normal that a 30 years old woman with a good health suffers a stroke. I can’t be left alone for too long until I get those tests done too…
Since there is nothing I can do to change this situation, my doctors told me to be careful but not to change completely my way of living since it‘s probably something I‘ve been living with all my life… And that might be fixable if there is indeed a problem with my heart.
So what’s up with LuFisto now?
Well, LuFisto is NOT RETIRING for now… But she’s on break until June. So yes, please consider that the match VS Sara del Rey is still on until further notice. I was told to relax for at least a month but that it was safe enough to perform at Femmes Fatales. I will also have to take breaks between matches more often now. It will all depends on how I feel after the match on June 5th… Unless the upcoming tests are bad and that I am told to stop completely… And well for once, if that is the case, I will listen to my doctor.
So yeah, I hope to still be around but there isn’t much time left now… VS Sara might be the last one and if so… So be it. Sara is an amazing competitor and if my last match ever happened that night, I will be honored that it ended with the great Sara del Rey.
If not, then enjoy the last run because LuFisto and Pegaboo and now going home… Slowly, but surely.
Thank yous…
Thank you to all my friends who came to visit: Kim, Lucky, Felix, Santi, Melanie and Steven (Thanx for the gift).
Thank to my best friend Tolo for helping my mom through this hell and taking care of everything for me while I was in the hospital. I am blessed to have such a friend. Love the teddy bear! Leia brought me the Force! 😀
Thank you to Rachel who’s been there in the ambulance while I was completely lost. You’re like a little sister to me and I cherish your love and friendship so much. Thanx to Camille and Guil for keeping me awake while I was waiting for the paramedics. It probably helped a lot more that we think.
Thanx to all the people who texted me to wish me well and all the friends on facebook that showed support. Much love to Cynthia who help my mom find my home in crazy Montreal to rescue my poor cat from loneliness… And get me some clothes!
Finally, once again, thanx to Alex and my mom. Without you two, I wouldn’t be here writing this long ass letter. Alex saved my life from responding quickly and knowing what to do and mommy, sorry for all the trouble I caused… I love you with all my heart and thank you for putting up with so much… I know being the mom of a Super Hardcore Anime hasn’t been an easy task.
