Matt Hardy set some things straight regarding the Broken Rules matchup at WWE NXT Halloween Havoc. As previously reported, there were some questions surrounding the Broken Rules Match scheduled for this weekend’s premium live event, with NXT Tag Champs The Hardys defending the belts against former champions DarkState.

Considering last Tuesday’s NXT TV, The Hardys reverted to their Broken personas, returning to the Hardy Compound, with Matt Hardy announcing the Broken Rules Match for the premium live event. This led to fan speculation that it would be a Cinematic Match at the event, similar to Final Deletion.

During the latest edition of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Hardy confirmed that this weekend’s Broken Rules Match won’t be a cinematic-style bout. Instead, it will be a match where anything goes, with no rules.

Hardy said on the matchup (via Fightful), “A Broken Rules Match is basically a match with no rules. Anything goes, anything can be used, we can fight all over the building. The standard rules in a pro wrestling match are broken.”

Hardy also confirmed that the matchup will take place at the Findlay Toyota Center this Saturday. When asked by co-host Jon Alba if it would be a cinematic match or a match at the arena, Hardy stated, “It’s going to be a real match in the arena.”

Matt & Jeff Hardy Defend Their NXT Tag Titles Against DarkState in Broken Rules Later This Weekend

The Hardys previously defeated DarkState to win the titles earlier this month at NXT vs. TNA Showdown, so they now hold both the NXT Tag Team Titles and the TNA World Tag Team Titles.

They later defended both sets of their tag team belts shortly thereafter against Team 3D (aka The Dudley Boyz) in a Tables Match at TNA Bound for Glory.

WWE NXT Halloween Havoc 2025, featuring The Hardys vs. DarkState for the Tag Team Titles in a Broken Rules Match, goes down on October 25 at the Findlay Toyota Center. It will be broadcast live on Peacock in the U.S. and on Netflix internationally.
