Backstage Update On Nick Aldis’ WWE In-Ring Future

Nick Aldis’ return to the ring at WWE SummerSlam does not appear to be the start of a regular in-ring run.

Aldis challenged Gunther after temporarily stepping away from his authority role, but came up short in his first WWE match, which was also his first match in almost three years. Following the show, Aldis handed Triple H his resignation letter, but he tore it up and reinstated Aldis as the SmackDown GM.

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE’s plan was always for Nick Aldis to wrestle one match at SummerSlam. The report notes that another bout could occur in 2027, but nothing is under serious consideration at this point.

Aldis is expected to continue in his role as SmackDown General Manager following his match with Gunther. Despite his loss, the match received a positive reaction from the live crowd.
