During a recent interview with Muscle Man Malcolm for The Sportster, AEW TBS Champion and CMLL World Women’s Champion Persephone discussed her issues with Thunder Rosa and forming an alliance with Dr. Britt Baker. Below are some highlights:

Persephone on Working With the Newly Returned Britt Baker

“That was interesting. And it still is because I think over the years even in Mexico I’ve had partners for short spurts, you know, like little moments. I don’t think I’ve ever had an official like this is my ride or die tag team partner, which I don’t think is a bad thing. I’ve always been happy on my own. I come from Olympic wrestling, and Olympic wrestling like that’s you and you and I when you I was part of a team, but at the end of the day, when you get on the mat, it’s about you, and it’s about you only, right? Like no one’s going to come help you. And so I think I’ve always just been comfortable wrestling on my own.

“So this new idea of you and Brick, it was really interesting because I think we’re both we both have strong attitudes. We both have just very I don’t want to say big egos, but big egos and like we’re just very confident in ourselves. So, at first I thought this is a make-or-break theme, I think, in that we both believe a lot in ourselves, and we both are very, I think, very good individually. So I think to be together we could either be something really good, great, or we could clash. And so I think we’re in this neutral, like testing the waters phase right now to see how it goes.”

On Her Alliance With Britt Baker Against Thunder Rosa

“I think that’s usually what unites people. So far, what we’ve done, I think, has been good. I think when we get together, it’s like we just gel very nicely. So, like I said, right now it feels like it’s going to be something really good. But I think it’s two strong people coming together to make something stronger. Let’s hope nothing gets the better of us.”

On Her Issues With Thunder Rosa

“What I think the issue really is just she came into my company in CMLL just talking this big talk. And mind you, yes, she is, like, a dual citizen. So, she did have the right to challenge for the Mexican national title because, obviously, the title she has only a Mexican citizen can fight for it, can have it. And so, I understand that yes, it was in her right. But she came into my company talking this big old talk that, like, as she walked through the door, she was going to take over and prove who she was and blah blah blah. Girl, you spent 10 years on the US side, on that side of the border, which is fine. Great. Like, good for you. You chose that side. Good for you. If I’m not mistaken, I think she chose to have 90%, if not more, 95% of her career be on that side and make herself known on that side, which again, great. Good for you. Good job. But then you come into my company talking this big talk like you’re going to take over the company when you haven’t been here five minutes.”

On Having Worked Thunder Rosa’s Mission Pro Wrestling Shows

“I never worked for Thunder. All right. I was under a contractual agreement for one night, maybe two, to work on her show. Fantastic. I again was doing her a favor by showing up to her show. Cause if not, maybe two people would have showed up. I think, you know, it would have been maybe three at most. If she was lucky, if her dad showed up, then maybe three, four. But if not, maybe two. I did her a favor. I was showing up. And that was that. I think it was a very contractual business arrangement. It was just a, ‘Hello. Hi ho. Did a great job for you. Packed the house for you, as I will always do.’

“And then, mind you, didn’t see her again for years, years and years. ‘Cause I chose to come over here to Mexico, where my roots are, make a name for myself. Hadn’t seen her for years. Now she’s going around telling people, ‘I knew back in the day. She used to work for me. Blah blah blah,’ as if she did something for me. As if she gave me the opportunity. As if she’s like a crucial part, a crucial building block of Persephone. No, girl. Like, I saw you by in passing maybe once, twice, packed the house for you, and that was it. I went home.

On Thunder Rosa Piggybacking Off Her Work

“You know, that’s where we realizing here is that I’m the victim here. She piggybacked off my success, packed a house for her own event, and obviously charging people money to come see me. She’s taking a lot of it, and now she’s here telling people like, ‘I used to know this girl. I gave her a job back in the day.’ I don’t know, man. That’s like whoever at, like, let’s say, Steve Jobs’ high school. Like, ‘I used to know that kid. He’s who he is because of me.’ Trying to, you know what I mean? trying to live off of great names.”

On last week’s AEW Dynamite: Rebel Heart show, Dr. Britt Baker, Hikaru Shida, and Persephone beat the team of Hyan, Maya World, and Thunder Rosa in a six-woman tag team bout.
