Rey Mysterio WWE RAW Absence Explained
After jumping into a feud with the Vision alongside fellow masked luchador Penta, Rey Mysterio felt conspicuous by his absence on this past week’s Raw, with Dragon lee backing up Penta instead. Speculation was bound to ensue. Did the writers have a change of heart. Are the retirement rumors true?
Nothing so major, it turns out. Per the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Rey missed Raw due to a minor injury and is expected back pretty quickly.
A top contender for greatest luchador of all time, Rey is 51 years old, and has been wrestling since the age of 14. With his high-risk style, it’s amazing that he has had such career longevity. He probably won’t want to be doing 619’s when he’s 60, but there’s been no serious talk of retirement yet.
Especially with the recent acquisition of AAA, WWE can use him in an elder statesman role for years to come. Plus, with John Cena recently gone and AJ Styles on the way out, another top name stepping down would hurt right now.
The fact that Rey is currently in a feud with the top heel faction on Raw suggests that he still has the company’s utmost confidence. Expect him to be kicking Logan Paul in the face again pretty soon.
