Road Dogg Explains WWE Exit, If He Has Any Interest in AEW

Road Dogg has addressed his sudden exit from WWE, where he served as co-lead writer for WWE SmackDown. He shared the update during a virtual signing alongside AEW’s Billy Gunn.

His departure came around the same period as his appearance in WWE: Unreal on Netflix. The series featured behind-the-scenes footage, including creative meetings involving WWE staff. The content led to discussion among viewers about how much of the wrestling process should be shown publicly.

Road Dogg explained that the demands of the position had become difficult to manage over time. He said the schedule was moving quickly, affecting his ability to spend time with his family. As a result, he chose to step away and focus on personal priorities, including time with his children and grandchildren (via Fightful).

Road Dogg stated, “It was moving too fast… It was just moving too fast for me. We talked about my brothers and their grandkids and I didn’t get to spend a whole lot of time with mine, so I’m gonna do more of that now.”

During the same appearance, he was also asked about AEW’s production process, particularly how much content is produced compared to what is broadcast. The topic came up in relation to Gunn’s current role, which has him serving as both a wrestler and a producer.

Road Dogg declined to speculate on AEW’s internal operations. When asked directly about the possibility of working there, he stated that he is not considering a move.

Also, when someone asked about if he might know in the near future, Road Dogg answered, “I don’t know the answer to that. I’m sorry… No,” he replied when asked if he could know the answer sometime in the future.
