Sami Zayn says that it’s never lost on him how fortunate he is to be in WWE, especially at this stage in his career. Zayn has been part of the company for 13 years now and has had a number of career highlight moments in WWE. He is set to battle Trick Williams in a rematch for the WWE United States Championship at WWE Backlash, and he spoke about his time in WWE while touching on his in-ring future while promoting the show.

Zayn spoke with Whitty Whittier and was asked about being part of the company at this pointy. He spoke about how he still has goals and dreams, that his ambition is replaced with gratitude more and more these days. You can see the highlights below:

On Being Part of WWE At This Point In His Career:

“Well you know, I guess a couple of years ago it really started to hit me, but I definitely feel it now more than I ever have. Just the realization that first of all, how lucky — it never really completely goes over my head, how lucky I am to be here to begin with, right? Because this is, again, literally something I dreamed about from childhood and now I’m actually here. Insane enough as it is, right? To actually achieve your childhood — I don’t know, goals, dreams, whatever you want to call them. But to actually be here is crazy enough. But then to actually get to do some of the things that you mentioned in that intro, again just incredible.

“And you reach a certain point where just kind of like — I still have this ambitious part of me. There’s still you know, famously even on screen, I’ve been chasing that world title for years and it’s eluded me. But so there’s always going to be this ambitious drive, but there’s also, it kind of gets replaced the older you get with just a gratitude that you get to do it for another day.”

On How Long He Has Left:

“I remember several years ago being on a European tour thinking like, ‘You know, I don’t know how many more of these there really are.’ When you’re in it, you think it’s just going to keep going forever. It’s kind of like when you’re in high school, you just feel like those years are going to last forever. But then when you’re an adult and you’ve been out of high school 10-15 years, you’re like, ‘Man, high school was nothing.’ It’s a blip in your life, you know?

“So I’ve been lucky that WWE and my time in this business has been more than a blip. But I realize that this time will probably be coming to an end within the next -— I don’t want to put a number of years on it, but definitely closer to the end than the beginning. So, I’m just very, very grateful to be a part of it still. And yeah, it’s just not lost on me. It’s not lost on me. This is great.”
