On the latest episode of Everybody’s Got a Pod, WWE Hall of Famer Ted DiBiase talked about the story of how Bill Watts’ brief tenure as a booker for WWE in 1995 came to an end. You can check out some highlights below:
On his initial reaction to Watts coming to WWE: “When I first heard it, ‘Well yeah, that’s great.’ Because Bill has got — he’s brilliant in terms of his understanding of the business.”
On the fallout: “I think he and Vince… had been somewhere and were going back to Stamford. And basically, Vince said, ‘Pull the car over.’ And so Vince and Bill got out. And Bill told me, he says, ‘What am I gonna have to do, am I gonna have to beat the s**t out of this guy or what?’
“And what he said, he said that Vince said this to him. He says, ‘Bill, I know I could give this to you. I could turn over the whole thing — the booking, all that deal. And you would do an unbelievable job with it.’ He says, ‘But what you have to understand is, I just can’t do it.’ In other words, it was Vince admitting that his pride and his ego is like, ‘If I let you do that, then you get all the credit.’ So that’s why Bill wasn’t there very long.”
