The Hardys recently reflected on their storyline with Eddie Guerrero in 2001 and how much of a team player the late WWE Hall of Famer was with them. As Team Extreme, the Hardys and Lita feuded with The Rascalz in 2001. Guerrero eventually left the group and sided with Team Extreme.
Matt and Jeff appeared on KVIA ABC-7 in El Paso and recalled working with Guerrero in that storyline. The two were in El Paso for TNA Final Resolution. You can see highlights from their comments below:
Matt On Guerrero Working With Them:
“I remember this [photo] was on an international trip and we — Eddie was great. I mean, he was such a great human being. He was one of the most talented wrestlers that have ever existed. We were doing that angle with Team Extreme, and it’s funny because it was still very open-ended. We didn’t know where we were going with it specifically. There was talk of him turning full-fledged babyface and — not kind of joining the team, but like befriending us and being an ally with us.
“And then there was also talk I think of him betraying or trying to get us to split apart, or trying to steal Lita, or whatever it may have been at that time. But the fact that we got to work with him was so great, and it was so cool. And he was such a team player. Because I remember he said, ‘Hey, well, do they have those in the merchandise stands? I want to cut off the sleeves just like you guys so we match. And he told Jeff like, ‘Hey, do you have any more of those armbands I can make and wear?’ He was just such a team player.”
Matt on Guerrero’s Ability to Read a Crowd:
“And I got to work with him many times. He had the ultimate gift of being able to just read a crowd. He would go out in front of a crowd, he didn’t want to like put together a lot of the match and and kind of predetermine what you’re going to do ahead of time. He’d want to go out there and listen to the crowd and let them dictate what he was going to do in the ring. And I loved that about him.”
Jeff On Working With Guerrero:
“As a pro wrestling fan, it’s still very surreal to me, thinking back to that time when I actually cut some women’s trouser socks, black and white, because Eddie asked me if I could do that for him. I remember him putting them on so vividly, and it was just such a such a cool moment for us. And yeah, it’s very surreal man, because I’m such a big fan of Eddie. And he’s with me in my heart and soul every time we’re out here.”
