The Wall Street Journal reports that Vince McMahon has agreed to a financial settlement with former WWF referee Rita Chatterton, who accused him of raping her in 1986. The settlement was finished last month and is worth millions of dollars. Chatterton was looking for $11.75 million in damages when she initially sent a letter to McMahon’s attorney in November. It’s unknown what the exact number of the settlement is, as that information as not been disclosed.
McMahon’s lawyer, Jerry McDevitt, said in a statement: “Mr. McMahon denies and always has denied raping Ms. Chatterton. And he settled the case solely to avoid the cost of litigation.”
Neither Chatterton nor WWE commented on the matter.
McMahon previously settled for $7.5 million in 2018 with a former wrestler who claimed he coerced her into giving him oral sex. He also agreed to pay $3 million last year to a former WWE employee he allegedly had an affair with. WWE investigated the payments and said it was taking the claims seriously when the story initially broke. At the time, McMahon retired from the company but has since returned and is once again Chairman of the Board.
