Note On When WWE Decided Not to Have Worlds Collide Air Live

WWE x AAA Worlds Collide took place on Saturday and airs on Wednesday, a decision that was reportedly set well over a month ago. As noted, WWE announced on Friday that the crossover show would be broadcast this coming Wednesday on YouTube, as opposed to airing live last night.

While the announcement was made less than 24 hours before the show took place, Fightful Select has gained some context on when the decision appears to have been made. According to a source at WWE Headquarters, they knew that the show wouldn’t air live on YouTube since early August. That would have been less than a month after WWE initially announced the event on July 16th. As JBL confirmed on Something to Wresttle With, the plan was to have commentary for the show recorded in post.

Sources also indicated that the company was happy with the live attendance of the show.

Fightful Select also gave a clarification about their previous report after some misperceptions about it. As noted, the outlet reported that sources in WWE admitted that they didn’t expect All Out tickets to sell as well as they did taking place opposite Worlds Collide. Tony Khan spoke on the matter last night after All out, saying:

“Did WWE actually go on the record and say they were surprised that we did so well? I was just curious about that.”

Fightful’s report (and our aggregation) said it was sources in WWE, not WWE in an official capacity. WWE would almost never give an official, on the record comment about AEW like that.
