WWE Crown Jewel in Perth, Australia at the RAC Arena on Saturday saw some major moments including Seth Rollins defeating Cody Rhodes for the Men’s Crown Jewel Championship despite Cody hitting the Cody Cutter and the Cross Rhodes, John Cena and AJ Styles putting on a classic that featured an homage to several former Cena opponents as the Cena retirement tour picked up some momentum, and more. Fightful Select has some additional backstage news bits coming out of the show.
They report that WWE did not bring their entire roster over to Australia despite holding Smackdown, Crown Jewel, and Monday’s RAW there.
They add that Cody Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins was always set to be the main event of the show.
Several indie wrestlers were used as extras on the show.
WWE saw several talent depart over the last day, some choosing to not renew their deals, while some were released. Fightful reports that the releases have concluded, and that they were told the reason for the releases was just the usual cycling out of developmental talent. They added that WWE is still recruiting new talent despite the releases.
Elsewhere at Crown Jewel, highlights included Tiffany Stratton losing to Stephanie Vaquer in another one of the Crown Jewel Championship matches with the Devil’s Kiss, Roman Reigns was defeated by Bronson Reed in an Australian Street Fight that saw the Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso), Bron Breakker, as well as Paul Heyman all get involved, Cena paid tribute to The Undertaker by landing a Tombstone Piledriver followed by the Attitude Adjustment, Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky defeated the Kabuki Warriors (Asuka and Kairi Sane) in a tag team match, and more. Fans booed the U.S. national anthem at the start of the show.
