As previously reported, WWE was in Hawaii this week for the Hawaii Live Tour, and tryouts were held in Honolulu yesterday (Oct. 16). KHON2 in the city had more details on the tryouts.

WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Raquel Rodriguez said about the tryouts to KHON2, “We’re out here doing a WWE tryout, trying to find the next big WWE Superstar. I think the best thing about doing this out in Hawaii is that we’re getting a really big mix of cultures, which is really beautiful to see.”

Rodriguez added, “Getting to see these athletes come out here and showcase what they do and their cultures, and getting to get a little taste of that, it makes me hungrier for more. I just want to explore more of Hawaii, I want to know more about these athletes, and I think they’re doing a great job representing their culture”

Local athletes at the tryouts tried out the promos, heard feedback from WWE Superstars, and also took part in in-ring workouts. Honolulu native and strongman competitor Makoa Chapa was among the participants for the tryout session.

Additionally, ahead of yesterday’s WWE live event, the city of Honolulu declared Oct. 16 WWE Day, with WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio making it official.

Mysterio commented to KHON2 on the honor, “(Fans) are about to enjoy two of the greatest nights in the history of WWE, not only because of our performance, but because today is a very special day. Today is WWE day here.”
