Goldenboy Santos Says WWE Passed On Him Following Tryout

In an announcement posted to his Instagram, Portuguese up-and-comer Goldenboy Santos announced he was not signed to WWE following a recent tryout. Santos, who has been wrestling for eight years, was one of several European prospects to attend WWE tryouts in July.
Fightful provided a translation of his social media remarks, which you can see below. He explained that he tore his calf during tryouts in London, England, earlier this year. He was called back for the tryouts over SummerSlam weekend in New Jersey, but was not signed.
Santos stated that he learned from the ‘best coaches in the world.’” Indeed, one of his early coaches was Gunther, then known as WALTER, whom he praises for getting “straight to the point.”
Santos noted earlier this year that he was probably one of the least-known names in his group of tryouts, but that it was nonetheless a dream come true. His chosen ring moniker of “Goldenboy” derives both from the fact that he’s the only male in his generation of his family, and one of a very few male Portuguese pro-wrestlers to make any kind of name for himself outside the local scene. (No, Aldo Montoya does not count!)
The tryout may not have turned to gold this time, but Santos’ signature “Midas Touch” in the ring seems likely to pay off eventually.
