Yota Tsuji Proposes Notion Of NJPW vs. AEW Match At Tokyo Dome

Yota Tsuji says it would be “interesting” to have an AEW vs. NJPW interpromotional match at the Tokyo Dome. As noted, AEW star Kenny Omega showed up at King of Pro-Wrestling on Monday morning and took out Oleg Boltin and Tsuji with snapdragon suplexes. He went on to say that he was coming after Tsuji’s IWGP Heavyweight Championship.
Tsuji spoke with press (per Tokyo Sports) after the match and said that he accepted Omega’s proposed match for a three-way bout between him, Omega, and Boltin. He added that if he wins, he’d like to see AEW choose their best talent to come and face him at the Tokyo Dome.
“These days, AEW’s top fighters are coming one after another,” Tsuji said. “So, to establish a truly equal relationship, I think it would be interesting to hold a full-scale inter-promotional match at the Tokyo Dome. If I beat Kenny in Hiroshima, I want AEW to select a ‘true top of the top’ once again and send them to face me.”
He added, “I feel like everyone in New Japan—regardless of their unit—is starting to realize that we can’t keep getting overshadowed by AEW. If we end up drawing a crowd to the Dome for a series of matches, it’ll be the biggest boomerang coming back at me—since I’ve been constantly questioning whether our partnership with AEW is really worth it. If we can show the world what we’re capable of, then that’s fine for now.”
Tsuji, Omega, and Boltin will compete at NJPW Power Struggle on November 3rd. The match is a non-title bout, but if Omega wins he will get a shot at the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.
