The Wrestling Observer has an update on the current progress of CM Punk’s MMA training. The former WWE Superstar is currently under contract to fight for the UFC. However, the report claims there are numerous accounts that despite Punk’s hard work in the gym, he has not made a great deal of progression in terms of his training. The accounts indicate that Punk has not done well in his live sparring sessions in the gym.

The hope was that Punk would make his Octagon debut sometime in the summer or fall. However, that’s been delayed due to recent back and shoulder injuries, causing his debut bout to become delayed. The UFC initially wanted Punk to debut at UFC 199 in June, but that was put off due to Punk’s back surgery.

The Observer report also says that there is a general feeling that Punk’s likely opponent of Mickey Gall would probably run through him if they were to actually fight. If more times continues to go by with Punk keeping a low profile in the media without a fight announcement, that will be quite telling of how the situation will pan out.
