Csonka’s WWE Superstars Review 10.07.16

OFFICIAL RESULTS
– Darren Young defeated Jinder Mahal @ 4:20 via pin [**]
– Neville defeated Curtis Axel @ 7:18 via pin [**¾]

– Tom Stupid Idiot Phillips and Corey Graves are on commentary.

Darren Young w/Bob Backlund vs. Jinder Mahal: Young tried to outwrestle Mahal early, and found success. Mahal tried to fight back and use his size, but Young cut that noise off and laid in strikes in the corner. Young was rolling until Mahal crotched him and then laid the boots to him. Mahal took the heat, shooting Young to the corner and hitting a corner splash, which got 2. He grounded Young with a half nelson, Young tried to escape but got slammed down and ate a knee drop and Mahal got another 2. Mahal continued the bland heat segment, but ran into an overhead toss. Young hit another, to the apron and hit the apron back breaker, which got the near fall. Backlund called for the chicken wing, Mahal escaped and ran into the gut check and that was that. Darren Young defeated Jinder Mahal @ 4:20 via pin [**] This was a perfectly solid, but bland match. They continued the trend of Young going for the chicken wing, failing and having to win with the gut check. I wonder if that is going to be a tease for a potential split from Backlund, but they didn’t tease anything post match. I’m still waiting for someone to make Darren Young great.

– We go back to Raw, specifically the opening segment where Reigns and Rusev brawled to set up their HIAC match at the Hell in a Cell PPV. They showed almost the entire segment. You can read my WWE Raw Review right here!

– We again went back to Raw, and the New Day vs. JeriKo tag match, with Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson on commentary. Again they showed almost all of this. You can read my WWE Raw Review right here!

Neville vs. Curtis Axel: Axel smartly tried to ground Neville right away, using his size and even talking trash to Neville. Axel kept the advantage, working the arm and forcing Neville to fight from the bottom. Neville eventually was able to use his speed, leading to a roll up for 2. Axel then rushed him to the corner, laid in some chops and rights. Neville again used the speed to counter Axel, hit a dropkick and then a great dive to the floor. Back in, Neville went up top but Axel grabbed the leg to cut him off and then hit a big boot to send Neville to the floor. Following the break, Axel worked the heat, hitting a dropkick and celebrating. He choked out Neville and kept talking trash. Neville slowly fought back with kicks, but Axel leveled him with a clothesline and then a facebuster, which got the near fall. Neville again fired up with kicks and strikes, the enziguri followed and then a head kick. Neville up top, red arrow, finish. I have noticed that Neville is now doing he RVD sell every time he hits the red arrow (hit the move, flops off the guy and sells his gut, and then makes the pin). Neville defeated Curtis Axel @ 7:18 via pin [**¾] Another fun little outing from Neville and Axel. It was nothing special, Neville got his run, Axel worked the bigger man heat, and then Neville made the comeback to hit his big move and won. It was simple and clean, no complaints.

– We go back to Raw one more time, and look at the Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks main event. They showed a lot of match, 75% or so at least. I felt that this was an excellent main event, playing extremely well off of their past encounters and delivering in the main event spot. This was on par with their previous Raw match where Banks also won the title, and worlds better than their Summerslam match. I also LOVED that winning meant everything to Banks, while losing left Charlotte devastated. The ladies delivered, and with the brand extension, there is no reason why they shouldn’t get more chances to do so going forward. You can read my WWE Raw Review right here!

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.

The final score: review Good
The 411
This was a good episode, fueled by airing most of the Charlotte vs. Sasha match from Raw. Again, Superstars appears to be the way to catch the important stuff from Raw you need to without committing three hours to do so.
