Csonka’s WWE Superstars Review 9.30.16
OFFICIAL RESULTS
– Sami Zayn defeated Curtis Axel @ 4:40 via pin [**½]
– Neville defeated Jinder Mahal @ 8:53 via pin [**]
– Tom Stupid Idiot Phillips and Corey Graves are on commentary.
Sami Zayn defeated Curtis Axel: Axel had a solid outing last week, in a losing effort against Darren Young. They worked the basic back and forth to begin, Zayn frustrated Axel who tried to stall from the apron, but Zayn sling-shotted him back into the ring. Smooth work from both guys as Zayn managed to stay a step ahead of Axel and constantly frustrating him. Axel managed to cut him off, and after some ground and pound Axel grounded Zayn for a bit before hitting a series of corner clotheslines. Axelmania was running wild, and then he ran right into the XPLODER, and Zayn killed him with the helluva kick for the win. This was a perfectly fine, sub-five minute match. They did their best with the time, the work was clean, no complaints for what it was, and that was to give Zayn a clean rehab win.
– We get a long look at Reigns vs. Rusev from Raw. The match was solid, with some smart and focused work, but the lay out (Rusev’s bargain basement house show offense instead of his usual intensity and Reigns’ poor selling as he laid thee like a dead fish a lot of the time) hurt the match. And then after asking you to invest over 25-minutes, they went for the double countout. That’s all well and good, but if you’re going to do that finish to set up the next match, you have these guys work an intense 8-12 minute sprint, filled with violence and intensity, and then do the double countout. Not what they did here. You have a limited time to get people invested and to want to stay with the show instead of the debate this wasn’t the optimal way to do that. – We get highlights from the Charlotte and Sasha segment from Raw, setting up a title match for this coming Monday. This was actually a really good promo segment from both ladies, much better than in previous outings. They could have dropped the silly names (Queen Charles/Sasha Wanks) because their material was good and focused, the delivery was strong, and the grade school name took away a bit from their quality work. Neville vs. Jinder Mahal: Neville spent the early portion of the match completely pissing off Mahal, using his speed to not only keep the advantage but to also embarrass him at times. Mahal then cut him off, and used his power advantage to get some run. Neville fought back, and Mahal took the worst bump off of the RANA, like he appeared as if he never took the bump before. Mahal bailed to the floor and we took a network break. Post break, Neville worked over Mahal with chops, and then sent him to the floor. They went to the floor and Mahal slammed Neville to the apron a few times too finally slow him down and he then took control. Mahal worked a rather bland heat, working a half nelson that was half assed applied, and then the worked the chinlock. Neville fought back and got a crucifix, but Mahal escaped and hit a big boot for the near fall. This led to Mahal choking out Neville in the ropes and then laying the boots to him. Neville laid in a series of kicks for the comeback, and then Mahal managed a tilt a whirl back breaker for 2. Mahal then went to the second rope, but jumped off into a sidekick from Neville. The read arrow finished it. This was a bland and rather lethargic outing for a match involving Neville. It’s not that I expected anything great, but there was just nothing resembling energy or fire to be found.
– We then got highlights from Chris Jericho’s highlight Reel and the main event from Raw. This led to shenanigans from Owens, Jericho, Enzo and Cass and the main event match. Owens and Jericho won, and while you hate to see Enzo and Cass lose here, because they feel as if they have lost a ton of momentum, but after last week’s main event Owens needed to win here. Enzo and Cass were competitive, but they need something to get back on track. You can read my WWE Raw Review right here!
– End scene.
– Thanks for reading.

“Byyyyyyyyyyyyyye Felicia.”
