Csonka’s Lucha Underground Review 2.17.16 – Cero Miedo (Season 2, Episode 4)
OFFICIAL RESULTS
– Ivelisse, Son of Havoc and Angelico defeated Chavo Guerrero, Cortez Castro and Cisco @ 5:57 via pin [**¾]
– Cage defeated Joey Ryan @ 4:06 via pin [**]
– Prince Puma defeated Pentagon Jr @ 7:45 via pin [***¾]
– We get the usual quality video package to open the show.
– At the Temple, Ivelisse meets with Catrina. Catrina says Ivelisse needs to be thankful for the mercy Mil Muertes showed her. Ivelisse wants a shot at the Disciples and the trios titles, but Catrina says there are no automatic rematches in the Temple. They have to fight another trios to prove that they are worthy. Ivelisse agrees, and also promises to get her hands on Catrina at some point, and that there will be no mercy.
Ivelisse, Son of Havoc and Angelico vs. Chavo Guerrero, Cortez Castro and Cisco: Fun opening stretch, good energy here until the heels cut off Ivelisse to get the heat. Chavo controlled for a bit, Cortez in and Ivelisse fought back and got the hot tag to Havoc. He ran wild until Chavo cut him off from the apron and the heels took control back. Havoc tried to fight all three off, went up top and jumped over Cisco and got the tag to Angelico. Good comeback from Angelico as he took all three to the floor and then the Dysfunctional Trio hit dives. Flying knee from Angelico and then the double stomp on Cisco was enough for the win. That was a fun opener, with good energy. Angelico did not get much time, but shined the most out of anyone in the match. I wished it was a bit longer, but it was a good way to open the show.
– Chavo yelled at the Crew post match, and then Texano returned and attacked as Chavo ran away.
– We get a Johnny Mundo video package. He puts on five-star matches and is a main event guy, but he hasn’t been treated that way.
– Officer Joey Ryan met with Castro. Ryan says he’s always been a better cop because he gets the job done. They need to convince everyone that they are luchadores, and Castro is doing a shit job. Ryan promises to show him how it’s done, next.
– For the fourth straight week, Prince Puma was the “luchadore of the week.” Can anyone unseat him?
Joey Ryan vs. Cage: Ryan looks petrified when Cage is announced as his opponent. Ryan tries to beat on Cage, but gets tossed around and decapitated by a clothesline. Cage was controlling until he posted himself and Ryan hit divorce court. Ryan tried to beat down Cage here, but Cage fought back with a slam and clotheslines. Cage would miss the moonsault and Ryan hit a spinebuster for a near fall. Cage hit the sitout pump handle slam for a near fall after that. Ryan then came back with the superkicks for a near fall. He set for another, Cage countered and hit a powerbomb back breaker and then the Steiner Screwdriver and that was that.

It was a solid enough match, but felt rushed and really lacked a solid flow. Cage is a beast. The fact that Ryan lost after giving Cisco shit will likely lead to more between those two as well.
– Post match Johnny Mundo attacked Cage, and went for the end of the world but Cage countered and then hit weapon X on Mundo to stand tall. Cage reminded everyone that he is not a man, he’s a machine.
– Rey Mysterio works out with Dragon Azeca at an undisclosed location. They are preparing for war, and Rey then tells the story of Azteca’s mentor as they spar. 25-years ago Cueto’s father came to Mexico and met with the original Azteca. They wanted to find the decedents of the seven Aztec tribes. But Cueto senior became obsessed and did sacrifices to the old Gods, even sacrificing his son (Matanza) to allow him to be processed. They parted ways, and made a treaty, sealed with dark magic. Rey says Dragon Azteca knew he was sacrificing himself, so do not go looking for revenge. Rey tells him to look for something impossible, a way to unite the seven tribes.
– Back at the Temple, Mil Muertes sits on his throne. Striker tells us that Cage vs. Mundo is next week’s main event.
Pentagon Jr vs. Prince Puma: This was set up in the first few episodes, where they were reluctant allies and now are fighting (basically) to prove who the best is and for a shot at Muertes and the title. Some fun athletic stuff from Puma early, Pentagon took a more physical and brawling style approach and was chopping the hell out of Puma. The fans LOVE Pentagon, and are behind him big time. Pentagon had control until Puma hit a cutter, kicks and then the springboard clothesline. Pentagon tried to go to the floor for a powder, but Puma wiped him out with a sweet dive, and landed on his feet. Puma controlled as they re-entered the ring, trying to work over Pentagon, but he missed a charge and Pentagon scored with a backstabber for a near fall. They had some good back and forth down the stretch, Puma hit the northern lights suplex and then rolled into the suplex where he Hercs the dude from the mat in a deadlift, which is impressive as all hell. Puma went for the 450, but ate knees and Pentagon rolls him up out of that for a near fall. Pentagon hit the package piledriver, and then went for the surfboard, but Puma was able to fall back and get his shoulders up for the pin.

Pentagon thought he had won, and was pissed when he didn’t. he attacked the ref, and he and Puma brawled. Puma teased breaking Pentagon’s arm, but opted not to because he’s a polite young man. They did the best they could with the time, and I really enjoyed the match. I just wish we had gotten a bit more time, because this was really heading towards something great.
– Post credit we see Sexy Star running through some sketchy looking hallways, and The Mack finds her. She tells him “The Moth” did it. Mack wants to kill Marty, but Star says, “No, her” and points as we get a horror movie style exit. Looks like we’re about to meet Marty’s sister.
– End scene.
– Thanks for reading.
