UPDATED: Possible Reason Why Nia Jax vs. Dean Ambrose Was Cancelled
UPDATE: A new report has details on why an intergender “special attraction” between Nia Jax and Dean Ambrose was advertised but isn’t happening. As reported below, WWE has confirmed that the ad was “incorrect” and/or “outdated” and the match isn’t taking place. According to Ringside News, this is due to an upset sponsor.
The site notes that this is a rumor within the company, so take it for that. That said, the rumor is that a WWE sponsor contacted the company and said that they don’t want to deal with a company that supports intergender wrestling. That would be more than enough for WWE to change their mind on the match as the financial value of sponsors can’t be ignored, particularly for a concept that isn’t core to the brand or storylines like an intergender match on a live event.
ORIGINAL: As previously reported, a local advertisement for the upcoming WWE live event in Jonesboro, Arkansas was promoting an “Intergender Special Attraction” match between Dean Ambrose and Nia Jax that would be held later this month. However, a new report from Post Wrestling indicates that the advertisement was “incorrect.”
A WWE employee reportedly reached out to Post Wrestling and stated that the ad was “outdated,” and the match was reportedly not happening. Also, the report indicates that another WWE official confirmed the ad was incorrect.
The live event is scheduled for Friday, February 22. WWE’s Paige even took to Twitter over the weekend to express excitement over the prospective match-up. However, it appears those plans have now been scrapped.
WWE recently confirmed that Dean Ambrose intends to exit WWE after his contract expires in April.
