More Details On Why Kalisto Was Released From WWE

Last week, WWE released Kalisto, along with several others including Samoa Joe, The IIconics, Mickie James and others. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that most of the people released weren’t being used by the company. One was let go because of the feeling they were “outwardly unhappy” about not being a part of Wrestlemania.

But in the case of Kalisto, he “cut his own throat” several months ago. According to the report, Kalisto had several clashes with officials over creative decisions, including the creation of the Lucha House Party. The faction was the idea of Lince Dorado, who thought they could use it to sell merchandise and make more money, even if they weren’t pushed. The idea was that Vince McMahon would go for it because it played off Mexican stereotypes and eventually it was greenlit.

While Gran Metalik went along with it as he just “goes with the flow”, but Kalisto was not happy with being part of the group the longer he was a member. He reportedly felt angry about being part of an act that were booked as “prelim jokes,” even tweeting about it at the time.

Kalisto continued to ask to be removed from the group and was told no each time. Dorado eventually asked if he and Metalik could be the team since Kalisto wanted nothing to do with it. That’s when the angle for the split was shot, although there were never any plans for it beyond making Kalisto happy. Dorado and Metalik continued to be brought to TV for various matches while Kalisto wasn’t booked at all and eventually released.
