Booker T Responds to Criticism Of His Comments About Adam Cole Needing to Gain Weight

Booker T is facing some criticism over his comments about Adam Cole needing to gain muscle mass, and weighed in on the situation last night. The WWE Hall of Famer said on his podcast last week that Cole’s recent injuries could be a result of him lacking in muscle, noting:

“We gotta get more weight on Adam Cole, you know what I mean? That’s his problem, he’s light, bottom light. We gotta get some muscle on this kid. That’s probably one of the reasons why he’s going out there, getting hurt because it can’t be the schedule at AEW.”

The comments didn’t go over particularly well online, with Hangman Page and Renee Paquette both weighing in. Page wrote:

“i just hope that when im old and retired i don’t lower myself to some shit ass podcast where i trash the younger generation that’s just chasing the same fortune wrestling has afforded me”

Paquette added:

“Body shaming is the absolute shits. Wtf is happening right now? Totally thought we were moving past talking about ppl like this. While the focus is normally on women, I’ve had many men talk to me about body dysmorphia. Piss up a rope.”

In a clip Booker posted from yesterday’s episode, he said that he isn’t just trying to trash Cole and is a fan of the AEW star.

“I like Adam Cole,” Booker said. “Adam Cole, actually — I think it it would be too far to call us friends. But I’m a fan of Adam Cole, I think Adam Cole and I are tight. I think him and his wife Britt Baker, I think we’re tight. And I think people are just trying to make something out of it. People want to make it seem like I’m hating on an AEW guy, and I’m not.”

He continued, “If I didn’t like Adam Cole, I wouldn’t be saying, ‘Man, we need to get some muscle on him.’ I’d be saying a whole lot worse than that, I think. You know what I mean? As opposed to trying to advocate how we can make Adam Cole look better, I think I would be saying a whole lot worse if I was trying to down Adam Cole.”

Cole is currently angling for a match against Jay White at AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door, with Hangman Page also seeking the match. On last week’s Dynamite, White said he would not be defending his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against either man.
