Kevin Owens Dedicates Tonight’s Match To ‘The Old’ Cody Rhodes

In a video posted to Twitter, Kevin Owens spoke about his match with Cody Rhodes at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, dedicating the match to Rhodes. Not the current WWE Champion, however, but “the old Cody”.

He said: “Here we go. Tonight’s the night. Saturday Night’s Main Event is back on NBC, it’s on Peacock. First Saturday Night’s Main Event in 15, 16 years or something like that. WWE wanted us to share our thoughts and feelings going into it tonight, kinda like closing words, and post ’em on social media to make sure everybody knows how big of a deal this is. I’m sure everybody is well aware of how big of a deal this is.

I’m doing my closing words here from my rental car. I’m sure Cody is doing his from his luxury bus in an American Nightmare pajama or an American Nightmare bathrobe, American Nightmare slippers…and he probably has his driver there, you know, filming it for him. I’m not like Cody. I’m just a normal guy. Doin’ it from my car, I’m holding the phone myself. I’m wearing my regular clothes I wear every day. I’m just a common man, you know? But that’s the thing. Cody and I live in different realities. Cody lives in a reality where it’s okay to use your friends to your benefit and then spit in their face and stab them in the back just to keep the spotlight on yourself. As long as he gets what he wants and achieves his dreams and accomplishes what he wants to accomplish, it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter how his friends feel. It doesn’t matter what he does to them.

And you know, that’s not right. It’s really not right. I live in a reality where tonight, I’m gonna make things right. But you know what’s crazy is that after all this time, everything Cody’s done to me, the betrayal and everything and just how bad he’s hurt me…I hate to admit it but I still have a lot of love for Cody Rhodes. I do. So tonight, I think it’s not a matter of me wanting to win the Undisputed WWE Championship, it’s a matter of me needing to win it for Cody. To help Cody. Because Cody needs to be brought back to reality. He needs to be brought back down to Earth with all of us. I think the best way to do that is to take what he holds dear more than anything else in the world, the most important thing to him, and that’s the Undisputed WWE Championship. I’m gonna do that for him.

What’s gonna happen tonight is I’m doing it for him. Again, I’m gonna show Cody how people should act by taking that title from him. I’m doing it for my friend Cody. I’m dedicating this match to my friend Cody. The old one, not the narcisstic psychopath we see now. I’ll see you all tonight.”
