CM Punk reportedly played a key role in bringing Danhausen into WWE. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Punk “spearheaded” bring Danhausen in to WWE after his departure from All Elite Wrestling. Danhausen had previously shown support for Punk during their time in AEW, which may have strengthened the connection between the two behind the scenes.
Before arriving in WWE, Danhausen’s run in AEW was limited by injuries and shifting creative priorities. While he maintained a dedicated fan base, securing consistent television opportunities proved difficult. Tony Khan reportedly stopped using him for “a number of reasons” but extended his contract briefly to keep him from leaving.
Meltzer noted that there have been mixed reactions backstage so far, with some noting that he did get boos when he debuted at Elimination Chamber, and as a result, his first segment on RAW featured a backstage promo rather than an in-ring debut, to avoid a negative reaction. WWE has reportedly been surprised at how well his merchandise is moving.
