A new report has some additional details on Sheamus’ exit from WWE and potential interest from other companies, including AEW. As previously reported, the former WWE Champion is exiting the company and has already been moved to the “Alumni” section of the WWE.com roster.
Fightful Select has some details on the matter, noting that as of now Sheamus is still under contract. He signed his most recent WWE deal in 2023 and described it in early 2025 as a five-year deal. However, sources had indicated that the deal is somehow up soon, though the details on why it would be up so early aren’t known. It was said that he was offered a restructured extension of his contract and turned it down. One source in WWE said that he was offered less money to stay and considered that an insult due to all the work he’s put into the company.
The report goes on to note that sources in AEW didn’t know Sheamus’ WWE exit was coming. Sheamus remains a close friend of Claudio Castangoli, who he teamed with as The Bar in WWE, and Castagnoli is expected to be one of a number of people pushing for him to sign with the company. That said, one source in AEW said that CMLL and other promotions outside AEW provide options for the two to work together again. Sheamus is expected to have a lot of interest from independent promotions but in the US and overseas, as well as on the signing and convention circuit. He is said to have representation, i.e. an agent.
Finally, it was noted that he did use the name Sheamus O’Shaunessy for years before he went to WWE and it’s not yet clear whether he could use the full name now. The outlet is seeking additional context on that.
