SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis exacted revenge on Gunther for his vicious attack on the authority figure last Friday, as he attacked The Ring General, costing him and Sami Zayn the high-stakes tag team matches against CM Punk and Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night’s Main Event: NYC.

The final match of tonight’s show at The Garden featured a high-stakes tag team contest between SummerSlam opponents CM Punk and Cody Rhodes and the unlikely duo of Gunther and Sami Zayn. The action, as one would expect, was fast-paced right from the outset as the four men brawled before the order was restored.

At one point in the match, all four competitors were down after Sami took out Punk with an Exploder, Cody nailed a Cross Rhodes on Zayn, and Gunther nailed a vicious lariat on The American Nightmare, followed by Punk executing the GTS on the Ring General.

Gunther had Punk in a Sleeper Hold at one point, but the Undisputed Champion managed to tag in Cody. The American Nightmare nailed a Cross Rhodes on Gunther, but he could not secure the pinfall, as Sami pushed the match official into Punk.

Rhodes accidentally took out Punk after Gunther rolled out of the way of his attempted Cutter. With the referee down and out, Gunther took hold of the championship belt and blasted Cody with it. He then nailed the Powerbomb and signaled for another referee to come down to the ring. However, before the new official could count the pinfall, Nick Aldis appeared out of nowhere and pulled him out of the ring.

Aldis then blasted Gunther with the belt, paving the way for Punk to execute the GTS and drag Cody’s body over the Austrian. Aldis pushed Charles Robinson in the ring, and Cody pinned Gunther to pick up the win for his team. After the match, Cody handed over the title belt to Punk and raised his hand. However, Punk accidentally hit Cody with the strap of the belt as he walked away.

As a result, the Undisputed WWE Championship match at SummerSlam 2026 will be CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes.
