Backstage Update on Why WWE Signed Necro Butcher to a WWE Legends Deal

As previously reported, independent wrestling veteran Necro Butcher recently announced that he has been signed to a WWE Legends deal, known within the company as a ‘Nostalgia Agreement.’
The announcement raised eyebrows, as the Deathmatch legend has never competed inside a WWE ring. PWInsider Elite [via Wrestling Inc.] recently provided more details on the development.
According to the report, WWE offered Necro Butcher a deal to potentially add him to its video games. The report notes that the deal was highly influenced by the positive feedback the promotion received after it added another hardcore wrestler, New Jack, to WWE 2K26, and WWE President Nick Khan is believed to have pushed for Butcher to be roped in for a similar role.
The promotion reportedly has no plans to bring the 53-year-old to wrestle. Butcher is revered for his hardcore style on the indie circuit, and his iconic match with current AEW star Samoa Joe from 2005 was highlighted during the fourth episode of Dark Side of the Ring Season VII this past July.
