Ultimate Fighter 28 Heavy Hitters

The Ultimate Fighter 28: Heavy Hitters Episode THREE
INTRODUCTION: Season 28 of the Ultimate Fighter is here. This season will feature women’s featherweights and men’s heavyweights divisions, and the coaches are current UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker battling against title contender and former middleweight The Ultimate Fighter 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum. LAST WEEK, Pannie Kianzad (9-3 MMA, 0-0 TUF) defeated Katharina Lehner (7-1 MMA, 0-0 TUF) via unanimous decision. This week, Anderson Da Silva (3-0-1 MMA, 0-0 TUF) vs. Justin Frazier (10-2 MMA, 0-0 TUF).

– We open with Whittaker praising Anderson Da Silva, who he feels is a great striker like himself. He started his pro fighting career at age 19 as a kick boxer. In his warm-ups, he looks crisp and dangerous, but kick boxers tend to have problems transitioning to MMA, especially when they get pressured in the fence and or taken down.

– Back at the house, Justin Frazier discusses his wife and family. He also admits that his wife is way too hot for him. He’s right; my man out kicked the coverage. He’s a self-admitted redneck who is fighting for his family. He’s a car guy who works at an auto repair shop 5-days a week. His son has dealt with heart issues, a transplant, and even cancer. Da Silva discusses his family keeping him on the right path in life. He’s married with a son and daughter, and his hobby Is spending as much time with his kids as he can because fighting and training are his job.

– We head to see Frazier training for the fight. Last week they were really concerned about his cardio and dedication, but Gastelum says he’s trued things around. Frazier didn’t really think he could make a go of this as a pro but is now all into making this his career. Frazier feels his wrestling will be the difference.

– Back at the house, some of the fighters discuss the language barrier between them. Maurice Greene is a dick about it and thinks some of the fighters are lying about not being able to speak English. Gastelum and his coaches arrive at the house to help Frazier cut weight. Frazier says this meant a lot to him. They got his down to 267.5 before they left and think he’ll be fine.

WEIGH-INS: Anderson Da Silva (240.5), Justin Frazier (266)

– We get the usual pre-fight warm-ups.

Anderson Da Silva (3-0-1 MMA, 0-0 TUF) vs. Justin Frazier (10-2 MMA, 0-0 TUF): ROUND ONE: Frazier is heavier and has the experience advantage, while Silva is taller and will have a 2-inch reach advantage. Frazier immediately comes out and takes Silva down. He pins him along the cage and lays in strikes to the body. Frazier is smothering him, as Silva has no answer to escape at this point. Frazier islanding really solid strikes from top, not allowing Silva to do anything but take punishment. Frazier is pummeling Silva with ease here; Silva’s ground game is nothing but laying there and taking an ass beating. It’s not close to a finish here, but Silva has absolutely nothing to offer on his back, it’s rather embarrassing. The round ends as Silva is bloodied. SORECARD: Frazier 10-8

ROUND TWO: They circle early on, working to the cage. They trade knees and separate. Silva is really slow here so Frazier quickly shoots and takes him back down; the ass beating continues. Frazier controls from half guard, smothering Silva and not allowing him to do anything. Silva simply has no ground game to speak of. Yes, this is an embarrassment in terms of Silva’s performance. Frazier continues to smother him, mixing in some strikes, and controls until the round ends. SORECARD: Frazier 10-8, 20-16 overall. OFFICIAL DECISION: Justin Frazier via unanimous decision/domination

– This was a bland fight that Frazier dominated with ease. Whittaker pretending Silva did anything good in the fight was completely amusing.

– Team Gastelum is out to a 3-0 lead.
