Conor McGregor Jumps Cage at Bellator 187, Has Altercation With Referee
Conor McGregor caused a ruckus at Bellator 187 when he jumped the cage to celebrate teammate Charlie Ward’s win, then got into it with a referee who tried to break up the embrace. McGregor jumped the cage after Ward defeated John Redmond at the event. As McGregor was not a licensed cornerman, security came over to stop him and when referee Marc Goddard got involved, McGregor got angry and went after the referee.
McGregor previously had a situation with Goddard at UFC Fight Night 188 in Gdansk, Poland. McGregor tried to serve as a cornerman for Artem Lobov’s fight to Andrew Fili, but wasn’t licensed. Goddard had to stop the fight for a moment to tell McGregor to return to his seat.
Bellator officials told MMAjunkie, “We are aware of the in-cage altercation involving Conor McGregor and a Bellator staff member. Viacom and Bellator hold the safety and well-being of our staff in the highest regard and we’re currently reviewing the situation.”
ABC President Mike Mazzulli, who was regulating the card, said in a statement to the site:
ABC President Mike Mazzulli, who was serving in a regulatory capacity at Bellator 187, just texted me: "Mr. McGregor is not bigger than the sport of MMA!!!"
