Gregor Gillespie Is Comfortable Fighting on Any Stage Ahead of UFC Fight Night 95
MMAjunkie Radio recently interviewed new UFC Fighter Gregor Gillespie, who is set to make his Octagon debut against Joaquim Silva at UFC Fight Night 95. Below are some highlights.
Gillespie on being comfortable fighting on any stage: “I’m super comfortable fighting on any kind of stage. If it’s a small gym or a packet house at the Detroit Pistons arena like when I won my NCAA title, on ESPN, in front of a sold out Detroit Pistons arena, I’m fine with any venue, any size, any amount of fans or coverage. When I won my national title in wrestling, I beat a kid from Michigan at the Palace in Auburn Hills in Michigan. I could hear chats over any other cheering in the arena at that time. I’ve been the underdog, and I’ve been the guy they want to lose. I’m all right with that, and I’m pretty good at zoning out anything outside the cage or the mat.”
Gillespie on taking his time to get to the UFC: “Honestly I could have won a fight in the UFC my first fight. I didn’t have that whole comfortability issue. I felt the same I did for every wrestling match. The pre-fight nerves were there, but they were the healthy nerves. I felt like I’ve been ready for the UFC since fight one. I kept my mouth shut for seven fight, and I didn’t blast anybody, I didn’t make myself out like an (expletive), and I didn’t go crazy saying, ‘I deserve this.’ I took my time, and I waited. And I’m here now, so I better make the most of it.”
