Hello everyone and welcome to 411mania’s LIVE coverage of UFC on ESPN+ 121, I’m Robert Winfree and I’ll be your host. Well after a disappointing UFC 321 the UFC is back in the warehouse and this feels like a very uninspired card. The main event is moderately relevant at featherweight with two rising contenders Steve Garcia and David Onama squaring off. The co-main is also theoretically relevant with two ranked heavyweights, but that division is in such shambles it’s hard to really care. That said Ante Delija is trying to make a push and for some reason the UFC keep Waldo Cortes-Acosta around despite most of his fights sucking. Beyond that Yadier del Valle taking on Isaac Dulgarian might not suck, and despite it being buried on the prelims Norma Dumont vs. Ketlen Vieira is two fighters making a case for a title shot. But really that’s kind of it so let’s hope the action delivers because the hype is pretty much non-existent.
UFC on ESPN+ 121 comes to the world from the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. We’ve got Brendan Fitzgerald heading commentary along with Michael Bisping and Daniel Cormier. That is not my favorite commentary trio. Joe Martinez handles the announcing while McKenzie Pavacich is our roving reporter. While we do have the newer rules in play keep in mind the Apex has the smaller 25 foot cage set up.
Talita Alencar has gone 2-1 in the UFC and most recently bested Vanessa Demopoulos, now she’s looking for her first UFC winning streak and to prove herself as a rising prospect. Ariane Carnelossi has gone 3-2 in the UFC but she’s been out of action since getting a weird DQ win in May of 2024, now she’s finally back and looking for another winning streak. Alencar closed as the favorite at -205 to Carnelossi’s +170.

Alencar jabs the body but she’s tired. Alencar catches a leg kick and gets a takedown into half guard. Punches from Alencar as she’s keeping Carnelossi on her back. Carnelossi tries an omoplata, Alencar moves through it into north-south then side control. Carnelossi tries to wrestle up on a single leg, Alencar works out of the sprawl position and hits the body a few times. There’s a bit of a reverse triangle attack from Alencar going on, she elbows the kidney a few times which is just mean. Now Alencar moves back to the crucifix and fires more elbows. Alencar gets to the back and gets a body triangle. One of Carnelossi’s arms is trapped in the triangle and that lets Alencar get the choke and force the tap after a bit of hand fighting.

The Final Round Finish Club thanks Ms. Alencar for her work. Mic time for Alencar, she feels great getting her first UFC finish then thanks God. She wanted to make a statement and feels she did, then puts over her team.

Phil Rowe has gone 4-3 in the UFC though he missed weight in two of those wins, most recently he did beat Ange Loosa and he’s trying for another winning streak here now that he seems to have his weight cut firmly under control. SeokHyeon Ko is on a five fight winning streak including an impressive upset win over Oban Elliott in his UFC debut back in June, now he’s looking to extend that success and prove himself a rising prospect. Montserrat Ruiz has gone 1-3 in the UFC and is on a three fight losing streak plus she’s been out of action since November of 2023, she needs a win here just to get a little job security. Alice Ardelean has gone 1-2 in the UFC but one of those was a contentious split decision and she is coming off of a win and now looks for her first UFC winning streak. Given the layoff and recent trends for both fighters it’s not surprising to see Ardelean as the favorite at -325 to a +260 comeback on Ruiz.

Ketlen Vieira has been flirting with the title picture for a while now but a few key losses have derailed her every time, from a KO loss to Irene Aldana to a split decision loss to Raquel Pennington she always seems to lose the fight before a title fight. Now she’s coming off of a win and despite having a lopsided loss to Kayla Harrison on her record she’s trying to get a title shot with another win. Norma Dumont is on a five fight winning streak with the last two wins coming over Germaine de Randamie and Irene Aldana, she’s never been as close to a title shot as she is now and if she can get a win here she could be next in line. The odds are with Dumont at -170 to Vieira’s +140.

Well that was surprising, I thought Vieira got the second but it was close and Dumont might have done enough to avoid dropping it after the takedown.
Donte Johnson is undefeated with all of his wins being first round finishes, now he’s trying to extend that success on the UFC stage. Sedriques Dumas has gone 3-3 with 1 No Contest in the UFC, he’s coming off of that NC but before that he was stopped in fairly short order by Michal Oleksiejczuk. Dumas is after his first win in over a year. It’s not surprising to see Johnson as the -345 favorite, but that +275 comeback for Dumas against a guy used to bulldozing opponents might have a little value.
Middleweight Bout: Sedriques Dumas (10-3 1 NC, 185.5 lbs.) vs. Donte Johnson (6-0, 184 lbs.)

Well that’s the prelims done and dusted, main card time.
Allan Nascimento has gone 3-1 in the UFC and is on a three fight winning streak, he wound up missing most of 2023 and all of 2024 so it’s nice to see him get two fights this year. A win here would be good for him as he looks to take aim at ranked opponents going forward. Cody Durden took this fight on just 10 days notice which helped prompt it becoming a catchweight affair, he’s on a two fight losing streak though and pretty badly needs to break that here or risk being viewed as damaged goods. Nascimento is the -325 favorite to Durden’s +260 comeback.

Charles Radtke has gone 3-2 in the UFC but most recently lost to Mike Malott, now he’s trying to avoid his first losing streak. Daniel Frunza dropped his UFC debut via a doctor stoppage against Rhys McKee back in April, now he’s back in action though and looking for that all important first UFC win. The odds lean towards Radtke at -180 while that +150 payout on Frunza might look tempting.

Radtke stands, eats an up kick but then passes the guard to side control. That’s where the round will end.
SCORECARD: 10-9 Radtke, 20-18 Radtke overall

Frunza gives up his back trying to stand and Radtke gets both hooks in then pulls things back to the mat. Radtke starts looking for a choke as he goes to a body triangle. Another choke attack from Radtke, again it’s pretty deep but now Frunza doesn’t have the energy to hand fight and has to tap out.

Waldo Cortes-Acosta has gone 7-2 in the UFC and just had a five fight winning streak broken by Sergei Pavlovich, several of his wins have been pretty uninspired outings and he’s trying to both avoid his first losing streak and regain the favor of the UFC brass and fans. Ante Delija is on a two fight winning streak and made some waves in his UFC debut when he stopped respected gatekeeper Marcin Tybura, now he’s trying to maintain that momentum and get one step closer to the title picture with another win. The odds are with Delija at -120 to +105 for Cortes-Acosta.

Again not much is happening, then they trade knees and separate. Delija lands an uppercut and then flurries as Cortes-Acosta just covers up against the fence and the ref steps in. Cortes-Acosta is complaining of an eye poke so they’re looking at the replay. There was a bit of an eye poke so we’ll have to see what the official result is. OK, apparently they’re giving Cortes-Acosta a chance to recover and continue. This is kind of a mess. Ultimately Cortes-Acosta can continue so we’re restarting, and naturally no point taken from Delija. Delija comes out jabbing on the restart. Cortes-Acosta looks to pressure forward. Right hand from Cortes-Acosta drops Delija, he then follows up with hammer fists on the mat to get the stoppage.

Steve Garcia is 7-2 in the UFC but right now he’s riding a six fight winning streak which has seen him break into the top ranks of the division, another win here would move him one step closer to the title picture. He really wanted to make something of himself and thanks the UFC for helping him get there then thanks God as well. He says Onama was a little too concerned with his corner. Asked about the future he wants his Rocky Balboa story and says he wants Max Holloway for a BMF title fight. Yeah that’s not happening.
